They had to have known they were going to start a war with that attack and that leads to my questioning why they went ahead with that if they didn't have a plan on how to end it short of being nuked from orbit.

Because of our reluctance to get involved in Europe. The United States foreign policy did not look like anything we have today. We were very isolationist. Which probably gave off the impression we were unwilling to fight.

because japanese culture and society values intelligence... lol

well, not the new post WWII Japanese culture, that's for sure. the kind of vermin (hint, hint) that promote the infantile excuse for culture that comes out of modern Japan is quite sad.

It would be something as unrealistic as Command and Conquer Red Alert 2 Ep2.

Would the world be divided into a communist block and an empire of workaholics and panties vending machines?

Why would the world be divided into a communist block? Germany was on Japan's side and if Japan won, Germany would have won.

Neither Germany nor Japan could've invaded the mainland of the US and maintained sovereignty over the whole thing.

why not?

We weren't as soft back then. They would had to have killed a huge percentage of the US population. Yamamoto knew this:

"You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

Logistics is the big thing. Germany couldn't get across the English Channel. Japan could send a few thou at the Phillipines, Guam, etc. but often couldn't keep them supplied. Moving a few million troops to take the U.S. and then supplying them is way more than they could hope to do.

Japan's 'winning' strategy might've been to avoid antagonizing the U.S. as much as possible and concentrate on all the Euro territories in SE Asia and the Pacific.

How does that follow? Germany was (arguably) toast after Stalingrad in early '43.

A far more probable scenario to question is...

What if your aunt had balls?

Would she be your uncle?

The Japanese had no chance in hell of ever winning WWII. It was only pure laziness and complacency on the part of the US Fleet that they managed to pull off Pearl Harbor. Had the commanders at Pearl been told that the Jap fleet had disappeared...had the fleet been on a higher level of alert, had they actually acknowledged that the Japs COULD reach Pearl undetcted...and as such, had the fleet somewhere besides their moorings...things would have turned out MUCH differently.

I for one am glad they lost.

Imagine a world in which all porn was pixelated?

I don't get it. You can draw some giant monster screwing everything in sight with its tentacles but you can't show real people having sex??

You got it backwards, it was because of the censorship on human private parts that gave birth to tentacle porn.

Assuming Japan didn't lose and actually got their Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, you would have a serious empire still in place and will start war again once they recovered/resupplied.

It was the string of victories against Russia and China that enboldened the imperialists. As long as they keep winning, they will keep fighting.

I thought japanese valued blind obedience and fanaticism.

You come off as quite the racist in this thread.

How come? just look at their workaholic culture, they're expected to work for a single company whole lives.

The main thing was the carriers I thought. Then they could have taken Midway easily and used that as a staging area to invade Hawaii at their leisure. Once they had Hawaii, it would have taken a LONG time to dislodge them.

Carriers were still in their 'infancy' when pearl was attacked. The battleship was still considered the navy's pride and joy. This is why battleship row was the main target of the pearl attack. Sinking a US Fleet carrier would have been gravy for the attack, but it was not one of the main objectives.

Carriers were also primary targets but fortunately they were doing naval exercises at the time. The japanese also forgot about some fuel tanks and some repair equipment too. Yamato wanted to go after the carriers after the attack but his superiors didn't let him.

I don't know how many Japanese people you know, but blind obedience and fanaticism aren't terms I would apply. Also, it wasn't too long ago that Americans were expected to work for a single company their whole lives, and had a workaholic culture.

I don't think so, about the burgers, the Japs were a bunch of imperialist pigs and they would force their culture on us, probably make us their slaves.

Let's see. Deragatory slang? Check. Baseless assumption? Check.

Again, you come off prejudice towards the Japanese.

Apparently Australia was really in the firing line.

Japan has no natural resources apart from sony, and they had a new currency figured for Australia. We fought them back tho.
