What if Japan had proven to be too strong/opportunistic for the USA, the Allies had their hands full with Germany and Italy and the atomic bomb wasn't developed on time?

Would the world be divided into a communist block and an empire of workaholics and panties vending machines?

I don't think so, about the burgers, the Japs were a bunch of imperialist pigs and they would force their culture on us, probably make us their slaves.

If Japan won WWII... my best guess is that this forum would be under the rule of uhohs and he would institute a rule such that we'd have to listen to Morning Mosume everyday. 🙁
 
The only way Japan wins is if they invade mainland USA and take us out. That wasnt happening. So it is hard to imagine a world with an imperialist Japan at the helm. It also depends what happens with Germany. The communists push to the English channel they probably take out Japan anyways.

So one has to wonder, why would Japan start a war they couldn't finish? What were they trying to accomplish? As far as history goes, I know about the events that lead to the attack on Pearl Harbor but outside of that, what was their end game? Was it that they thought they really could invade all of the US?

They wanted to bring us to the bargaining table and lift the oil embargo on them that was crippling their war machine and give them free reign in SE asia\pacific. By knocking out our pacific fleet they took a gamble we would fold up and sign an agreement to lift the embargo. If they were serious about taking us they would had followed the bombing of our fleet with an invasion of the islands and make plans for an invasion of the mainland. We called their bluff and kicked their ass back to the main islands before dropping the big one. They really had little hope of winning that war due to their inferior technology and much smaller economic capacity.

edit: They were really bad at reading FDR as well. He was finding every which way to get us into the war but was held back by public opinion. Japan being a racially different culture only increased our will to decimate them.

germany most likely would have turned on italy and then japan just as they did russia imho.

We were denying them oil and other raw materials that they needed, like steel. And we opposed their imperial ambitions in the Far East. Japan and the US were on a collision course, anyway, and their thinking was that a decisive first strike might make us lose heart and "see the light" and sue for peace, leaving them free reign in their sphere of influence.

But Admiral Yamamoto, who had studied in the US, knew the folly of this and knew they would only be awakening a "sleeping giant." But when tasked with planning Pearl Harbor, he obeyed the chain of command and stoically did his soldierly duty.

They were trying to conquer the whole Pacific. China, Philippines, Indonesia islands, Australia, all those other islands so basically the whole Pacific. They also successfully invaded some of the Aleutian islands off Alaska which is US soil but were driven out. Of course they would have wanted to invade mainland US as well but no way did they have the man power to with them losing all those islands along the way but who knows if they could have but it would have taken a while to gather up enough manpower to invade the US mainland.

I think they did it to knock our navy out of the Pacific. I sincerely doubt they had any plan to perform an invasion of North America.
 
I mean I know the why they did it part. What I'm really curious about is what in their right mind gave them the bright idea that America was going to ignore the deaths of thousands of sailors. They had to have known they were going to start a war with that attack and that leads to my questioning why they went ahead with that if they didn't have a plan on how to end it short of being nuked from orbit.

Yeah a North America invasion seems pretty unlikely. Even back then there were enough gun toting US citizens to hold back pretty much any military force. Now, it would be nearly impossible for any nation to actually take control of the US population by force.

Had the attacks on Pearl Harbor taken out the US carriers, it would have taken the US years to be able to stand up to the Japanese fleet.

If the US, with it's population, was intimidated from invading the Japanese mainland, think of what the Japanese would be thinking about invading the US. Even if they had taken out the US fleet, I doubt they would have tried to go any further than Hawaii.

Also if the Japanese were a more gracious victor, the populations of SE Asia might have cooperated with them. In that case I doubt the US would be to displace them at all. There might have been a Japanese Empire right now instead of a Chinese power in the region.
