Well, all this is moot, as the OP is somehow under the assumption that it is illegal to kill yourself, which it is not (at least in the U.S.). Aside from trying to throw that little kink in there, it boils down to the exact same argument about abortion, which has been beaten to death, its remains eaten, and then the nutrients cycled through until it was beaten to death again, and then that done about 9,002,309,232,430,409,475,434,171,003 times, so there's really going to be no difference.

Duh, because fetus' aren't people.

If a law here in CO passes, it will make the word "person" mean from fertilization, that's a person.

Should be interesting.

will that change the birth date?

IIRC, in China there are two: the day of conception and the day of birth.

wrong. they have 2, one in Lunar calender one in Georgian.

I could've sworn someone told me one was based on the moment of conception, which would make the child nine months older. I don't remember it having anything to do with the type of calendar.

The law says so. That can have huge implications as far as insurance is concerned. Similarily, a woman that chooses abortion leaves the father with no choice in the matter, which is odd considering he was a partner in the creation of the child.

No, it's the Christian extremists imposing their belief on the rest of us, just like Muslims jailing a person for not wearing proper attire in public. Insurance has nothing to do with it except as fraud if the person attempts to make the suicide look like natural causes. Shotgun blast = no insurance implications. No insurance at all = no insurance implications.

Several have, none have disagreed, your debate was flawed from the start which is your problem.

I said that's all I have to say, meaning that's all I need to say. Meaning your original point, along with your complete lack of a rebuttal other than 'waaaah don't disagree with me', doesn't really require an in depth response. I "diverted" the topic because my "diversion" is where the actual argument on the matter lies.

Plus, all I'm really doing now is enjoyed the sweet taste of victory, I'm not really continuing the debate.

Well if you kill yourself, you go to Hell, right?
And that's where lawyers go too.

So before you can even really get to Hell, first you get sued. THEN you go to Hell.

I think suicide should be legal. It's your life, you decide what to do with it. Making it legal won't mean people will suddenly be offing themselves left and right. I don't think that "Oh no, it's illegal!" is the main deterrent against suicide.

And if you do botch the suicide, and have to face prosecution....."Dammit, this really sucks. I hate the idea of going to jail. Hey, I should kill myself! Why didn't I think of that bef- oh, right. I did."

Suicide is illegal? I wonder if that is true in Canada. The only reason I can see it being illegal was if it were some old religious law or something.

I can just see it now. Two officers report to the scene and promptly arrest the hanging corpse for committing suicide.

Then, when they're done with the paperwork for that case, they're dispatched to stand guard outside an abortion clinic to protect the doctors so they can off babies.

The old way in China they count one years older because you are age 1 when you are born, but it doesn't count from when you are conceived. Furthermore, Chinese thinks that you spend 10 months in your mommy's tummy, so seeming they count from time of conceive, but it doesn't really add up...

nobody count age like that in China anymore, that's really really old ways (early 1900s).

for birthday they usually remember both lunar and georgian for eventual feng sui needs...

If it's not religious based, maybe it's because medical staff and emergency response workers don't want to clean up your mess.

Actually, it would weed out some human chaff if they legalized it and millions took themselves out. ;)

Please. Stop acting like a child. You never said anything definitive in your first post, just laying out opinion. The only thing I took seriously has already been responded and your response was "haha. no...". If you want to have a logical debate on zygote/fetus, which is a conservative attack-line, count me in, otherwise you're just asserting your opinion, which does not equal fact. Funny how you never responded to the fact that I said the primary reason behind pro-abortion opinions is simply the right to choose, a liberal attack line.

Being born and being concieved are two different things and.

Being born isn't what makes you alive. It's not like you're dead until WHAM you pop out of some woman, are cut out, etc.

I think the abortion things just comes down to where you draw the line of when it is concidered a person. Unfortunaly a lot of people have different views so this issue will never be unanimous.

To me conception or zygot/fetus stage is not life. But it does have the potential to be life. That is how i rationalize my stance on pro-choice. You are just taken away the potential of life, not actually killing something that is alive. But to each their own. That is my reasoning behind it.

Why does P&N keep leaking idiotic topics full of logical fallacies into OT?

Is it because the election is soon?

Please, make it stop. I'm tired of raging inside...

I believe (and I could be wrong) that the reason suicide is illegal is because authorities wouldn't have the right to stop someone from killing themselves if it was legal.

As I mentioned earlier, there are two lines of attack:

Conservative: A fetus/zygote is a human life. Therefore abortion is illegal.

Liberal: A woman has the right to do what she pleases with her body. It is immoral (slavish) for the state to control her. Therefore abortion should be legal.

It use to be primarily for moral reasons, now it is financial. For example, you can't simply kill yourself so that your family can get the life insurance money (they may desperately need).

But that's up to the insurance company, why would that make it illegal, unless you were knowingly trying to defraud them?

Attempting suicide isn't illegal in any state, as far as I know.
