no major world power is going to go to war over a foreign religious figure... I mean, what happened after the attempted assassination of John Paul II? he forgave the man who tried to kill him.

major foreign powers would issue statements of condemnation, the catholic church would elect a new pope, and the world would continue to turn.

I don't know if WW3 is going on, but I do know that there is a reason for some of the problems going on in the world right now. The Pakistanis helped create the Taliban after we bailed on Afghanistan, just like we failed the Kurds after the first Gulf War - as a result, Saddam killed countless Kurds. Do you think the Kurds have forgotten that?

To be honest, we shouldn't expect any respect in the muslim world the way we have treated them for the past few decades. We support their tyrannical regimes to further our interests; we come to their aid supposedly to help them, but instead, after our interests are accomplished, we flee and let the civilians take the punishment from militias or other opposing groups. Its a cycle and America is looked upon as a hypocrite in many parts of the world, and rightly so.
