Most cities have a wildlife animal rescue center.
But that's a dove so they probably won't accept it...
(I think it's a dove.. is it?)

Well guys, did the bird survive the night?

My kids and I try to rescue injured birds when we find them but as said already, if you can catch a bird it's probably too late. For us, it always has been. 🙁

This is one of those situations where being a grown-up and hardening your heart is the right thing to do. Please put the bird out of its misery. Being a panty waist and keeping it alive because you feel sorry for it or you want to be a nice person and save it is, in reality, quite cruel.

is it in misery? last i read it was sleeping, comfortably.

If you think that any will bird will will willingly "enjoy" your company, you are sorely mistaken. It is not cozying up to you. It is not looking forlorn so you will take pity on it and nurse it back to health. It is a small animal with a minute tidal blood volume with a gaping wound in its side. I am sorry to say this, but it is dying and anything other than immediately rushing it to the mortally wounded wild bird emergency room or killing it is simply extending it misery.

what expertise do you have re: assessing potentially mortal wounds in small birds?
how do you suggest killing it?

Take the bird to your local wild animal shelter. They'll decide whether the dove's wounds are fixable or not. Call your vet, they'll point you in the right direction. I take 2-3 injured birds/year to the local shelter. About half end up surviving.

Find stray cat, give the cat an early Christmas present, know that you contributed to nature the only way you could.

Here's what I do when I find a wounded pigeon in my yard. Go into the garage and get a shovel, take the shovel and whack the bird 2-3 times really hard or until dead. Wrap bird in trash bag and throw in the trash.

I've used this method with great success in the past. I hope it helps you! 😀

I don't get it - it's a friggin cheap bird. It's not like an eagle or something endangered. Why spend the time and money on it? Just feed it to your cat - let nature take over. It's called the food chain.

i dont' get it you're just a fvcking conservative dumbass. i dont' understand why your parents bothered to spend time and money on you. i wish they fed you to a tiger.

there's a lot of jackass responses to this.

i would first try to take the bird to the vet. i would be a bit worried about working on the bird without wearing any gloves. if the vet isn't an option, try to clean the wound a bit and apply some antibacterial ointment (like neosporin). let the bird rest in shoebox (you can surround it with cloth to keep it warm).

of course, you could just ask the vet what to do....

My point is that if you aren't taking it to get medical attention, you are just letting it suffer. That is not a wound that an animal would survive normally.

The shovel method described above is probably the most humane.

What a moron. Why don't you try growing up for once.

I would say give it the ol' .22. Even if it heals, it may be adapted to the care you give it, and may not stand a snowballs chance in the wild.

place the bird in front of ur bros tires right before he needs to drive and go somewhere

that way, u wont feel as bad as he will be 🙂

Great with garlic & red wine sauce...

cos there's so much eating meat on a pidgeon, right?

The fat ones in Phoenix, AZ had alot of meat on them...

It's a friggin pigeon, it's only redeeming quality is that it is not a roach. They sh!t everywhere and especially on cars after you get them washed...Fresh washed cars are like pigeon poop magnets.

If you really want to save it though, take it to a vet immediately and ask his opinion

My thoughts exactly..

It's a natural thing. Don't interfere, let it die. If it would break your heart, put it in a cardboard box with a towel and leave it on the doorstep of a vet. They'll probably kill it for you.
