I hope it doens't hit H-Town. That would suck not only for me, but after the refineries are down, we are screwed!
 
"The latest five-day forecast from the National Hurricane Center has the storm making landfall near Galveston on late Friday or early Saturday. However, because of the erratic nature of hurricane movements, forecasters issued a "cone of probability" which showed the potential path of the storm could vary from northern Mexico to southeast Louisiana."

Maxwell Smart and the Chief would be proud.

 
HOLY CRAP its already Category 2!! The storm is strengthening faster than initially predicted...now has a good chance of becoming Category 4 in the Gulf before making landfall between Texas and western Louisiana.
 
On my drive into work this morning they were telling all of us in the Houston Metro/Galveston area that if we need to evacuate, we need to do it early and go far, because the shelters around here are already at 95-95% capacity.

No Sh1t. Almost half of the remaining currently operational oil refineries are right here in the Houston area.

I just got back for Wal-Mart...
Coleman type Stoves, cleaned out.
Flashlights, cleaned out.
pet carriers, cleaned out.
bottled water, cleaned out.
Jugs to bottle your own water, cleaned out.
Canned goods, cleaned out.
Ice Cream, Still tons 😀.
People are taking this very very seriously.
I will probably wait until late Wednesday - Thursday to head out if it looks like it is going to head my way.
This is on the south side of the city.
 
I go to med school in Galveston. Thanks to Rita our gross anatomy midterm will most likely be postponed! Bad news... possibly won't have a place to live if it gets bad. 🙁 My apt is right on the gulf.

We're still waiting on the announcement of mandatory evacuations.
 
What part of town are you in? I'm on the west side of Houston and there was still plenty of water/canned goods available as of noon today at the Kroger near my house.

Yea, it was pretty ugly, but Galveston Island has done a lot to prevent that from happening again. Not to mention that we won't be caught by suprise again. The Sea Wall is something to see if you have never been there.

Every expert has said the sea wall would do nothing if a strong cat 4 of cat 5 hit the island.

Theres already been a couple of busloads of Galvestonians to arrive in College Station.

A&Ms game vs Texas State may be moved to Thursday.

i'm inside the loop

i did buy 2 gallons of powerade and a whole lot of soup.

i got the last can of chunk chicken on the shelf.

i also have big trash bags to i can bag up all my stuff in case the windows blow out (i don't think the apartment complex is going to put plywood up)

i should have bought the cans of sterno fuel sitting there. but campbell's chunky doesn't really need heating.

i go to UH law, and last time we had any sort of tropical weather (TS allison, which sat over houston for several days) the basement flooded. so i'll probably have to go clean out the office down there if the hurricane looks like its coming this way
 
Well this is fun, I just got off the phone with my boss and my regional manager. Looks like the preperations have started for moving all of our offsite buisness to another 'hub' should the storm come near here.
