Having lived in Biloxi I can tell you I would have never guessed they took this storm lightly after the way they talked about Camille. Many people there are poor enough to have had to stick it out. Lots of old landmarks there are gone. The Edgewater strip mall with the crappy movie theater you could order a few beers at is wiped out. Some big name Casinos are wiped out. A historic buildings that survied Camille are gone.
I always though it was entierly plausible that a big storm surge could sweep the city into the Back Bay. The high water mark for the city itself on the peninsula is the railroad tracks. Everything behind it was safe from Camille. Not this time. Keesler AFB seems ok (behind the tracks) but its not in its usual position to help the community this time. Its barely self sustaining from what I hear until outside units can come in.
