Dorian is now officially a hurricane and forecast to impact the Virgin Islands and eastern Puerto Rico over the next 24 hours. It turned north, likely sparing PR a direct landfall. Will likely got Florida this weekend as a Category 3 unless it continues turning up through the gulf stream towards the mid-Atlantic.

Our stable genius is tweeting this ahead of the hurricane:

Oh and he bitched about spending money on PR while lying about the amount (93B). Said when will it ever end.

Of course now that it diverted and is heading for Florida not enough brown people for him to complain.

I know this is unpopular, he is sort of right. PR has an amazingly inept leadership. Money is continually wasted.
HOWEVER that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve aid/assistance.

I would like to see an objective view on Puerto rico's alleged political corruption.

I know that there have been protests against he governor and he was forced to resign. Some in his admin were arrested by the FBI for corruption. I don't know how widespread it is though. Plus it's well known that the President of PR is corrupt.

However, the problems go further back than July. The Rosselló administration has been plagued by allegations of corruption and mismanagement during the response to Hurricane Maria. Shortly before the messages were leaked, the FBI arrested five former government officials and contractors accused of misappropriating millions of dollars in federal funds given to the island after the disaster.

WTF world are you living in? Hell of a lot more brown people in Florida than in Puerto Rico.

Well anyways, the current track has it coming right over the Daytona area, people are already gobbling up supplies everywhere. Just came back from Home Depot, the only plywood I could find was '4X '2 pieces, I'll have to use some pine to custom build for my exposed windows. Gas is holding up so far, filled the tank and got 20 gallons for the genny. Predictions call for a cat 3 on landfall, but given the very high sea temperatures and lack of any shear I would not surprised to see a 4 or possibly a 5, it will also grow much larger as well, wish me luck.

Well, not really, 1st issue is the only camera I have is on my tablet and I have more chores to complete before this all goes down. Going to "Hurri-con 4" tomorrow, boost gas storage to max, (40 gallons), get more propane, ect.

Sounds like you're well prepared at least. Best of luck.

Thanks, yea, once one of these hits gas is king. Many buy a 5Kw genny and just one 5gal Jerry jug but the 6-9HP engines have to run at 3,600RPM to maintain 60Hz frequency then the load of a fridge, TV, window AC means that 5 gallons is gone in one day. With widespread power outages there is nowhere to buy gas once it goes through.

Heard the same on network news last night. Cat 4 or 5 not out of the realm of possibility here given ocean temperatures 85-90 degrees in the region. Yipes! I was trying to imagine that. No wonder people flock to FL beaches.

Well, I'm wondering... to what extent is the frequency of major hurricanes increasing?

Off topic, I never understood the ocean temperature thing relating to storms. Do the storms somehow suck the energy out of the Ocean?
Is the water cooler after a big storm because of this?

That's exactly what happens. The warmer the water the more energy given to the storm That's what has been leading to storms getting stronger faster in recent years. The ocean temps are higher.

The increase in temperatures on the ocean surface has caused the storms to get much stronger much faster. That's part of the issue recently. We are seeing more, much larger storms.

So..Dorian has pretty much bypassed PR, and is now headed closer to Mar-a- Lago. If the storm actually hits Mar-a-lago, I'm sure we'll be seeing Trump tweets about how he was treated so unfairly by the hurricane. I'm sure he would just sign an executive order to rebuild it using real gold instead of gold spray paint.
