Honestly I don’t get it, okay so there’s a laptop that either was his or has his files on it. What exactly is on this laptop that’s relevant? Yes, he has led a depraved life for periods. This isn’t really in dispute with or without a laptop.
 
conservatives: joe biden and his son were involved in a multinational plot that involved extortion, blackmail, and fraud, paying off corrupt ukrainian officials while siphoning off hundreds of millions of dollars into untraceble overseas accounts

also conservatives: joe biden is an incoherent old man suffering the onset of dementia who can't even read his teleprompter and definitely isn't making the decisions

Nope, nothing in that article goes against anything I’ve ever said.

You will never know this because you’re a dishonest person but if you just approach things honestly your past words will never come back to haunt you.

Imagine how sad it is to project your own pathetic moral failings on other people. Then again I guess if you were capable of that we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Many (if not most) of mine admittedly are as well, but I'm not a constantly projecting liar.

I don't blindly regurgitate propaganda and accuse everyone else of lying simply cuz feels. I don't use shitbird, partisan outlets as sources and accept it all outright as fact because it says what I want to hear, and without cross-checking and corroborating information and claims.

His hatred for others and humanity in general has been documented on these forums, but he only has invented anger and rage. Do not pity him, he doesn't deserve it. Like Chucklehead, he is intentionally dishonest (and projects it on others).

He’s a terrible human being for sure, I can only imagine how awful it must be to know such a hateful liar personally. That being said, everyone is deserving of at least a measure of pity and compassion.

As for you, I understand why modern American conservatism makes you angry, it makes me angry too. (We share a dislike for fascism) I try not to put my anger onto individuals though as really it is the movement that is the problem.
 
I Rudy Giuliani had found even the slightest inkling of anything incriminating he would have been shouting it from the Four Seasons Landscaping parking lot before the election. Instead, we got nothing but vague insinuations for years. There’s nothing there.

“He tried to leverage his father’s job to make money!”

Beyond that, I’ve haven’t heard of any dots to even try to connect. Is it unethical for a politician’s son to leverage his nepotism? Yes it is. And it was that way when George W. did it in the 1980s. In fact I’ve heard how unethical it is from Donald Trump, whose daughter and son-in-law were given high-level advisory positions at the White House despite one of them being unable to pass security clearance. I’ve heard it from Bill Barr, whose daughter and son-in-law worked for the Executive Branch. I’ve heard it from Rudy Giuliani, whose son is an assistant to then President Trump. I’ve heard it from Mitch McConnell, whose wife was appointed Secretary of Transportation despite several material conflicts of interest by then President Trump. I’ve heard it from Ron Paul’s son, and Mitt Romney’s niece.

I’m soooo grateful that the Republicans are all so willing to teach us that nepotism and use of family connections to get ahead are a sign of fundamental corruption. It’s an unethical (and maybe criminal) breech to use your name to get jobs If you are a Democrat. That’s the narrative to keep in mind here.

Since we know today's conservatives don’t actually care about rooting out corruption, we know that it doesn’t matter to them what's on the laptop or what Hunter Biden did or didn’t do; just like it didn’t matter what was actually in Hillary’s emails, or what policy changes could have improved the outcome in Benghazi, or what specific version of his birth certificate Obama produced. Obama = illegitimate. Benghazi = traitors. Hillary = lock her up. The goal here is to just keep up the association for consumers of conservative media that Biden = corrupt. Keep talking about it. Say those two words in the same sentence over and over again until it becomes the truth.

As today’s ‘conservatives’ have proven time and time again, it’s always easiest to lie to oneself.

Apparently NYT reporters are authenticators of such things, and they do so by writing paragraphs which include the words "appears to be".

He has not been charged with any crime. There are several moving pieces, though, which I think bear reviewing (which I have attempted to do so in an objective manner below).

According to the NYT:

Tax Investigation:
  • An inquiry was launched in 2018 into Hunter Biden's alleged failure to pay federal taxes.
  • The inquiry was later widened to "include possible criminal violations of tax laws, as well as foreign lobbying and money laundering rules, according to the people familiar with the inquiry."
  • After the federal inquiry was reported publicly, Biden paid off a "large tax liability" of more than $1 million in late 2020. Unclear whether it was related to the inquiry.
  • Some have alleged that Biden is deep in debt due to his substance abuse problems. In 2019 he was sued by the mother of one of his children for failure to pay child support. The case was settled outside of court.
The Laptop and Burisma:
  • The laptop allegedly contains emails from Biden to a former business associate, Devon Archer, and emails to other partners about conducting business with Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company. The emails also show Hunter Biden wanted to ensure his potential business relationship with Burisma did not violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
  • From what I can find, it is not clear how or whether his dealings with Burisma are related to the federal inquiry. I also do not see anything to suggest that these emails indicate illegal activity, however from what I gather from NYT, some of the emails could be interpreted as Biden using his position as the president's son as an appeal to Burisma to develop a business relationship.
  • Most media outlets did not report on the laptop initially because they were unable to verify the authenticity of the emails. The NYT later verified the authenticity of the emails after individuals familiar with the situation confirmed their authenticity.
  • Biden has released a statement saying all of his affairs have been conducted "legally and appropriately" and he has committed no wrongdoing.
  • Devon Archer, one of Biden's business partner for the Burisma partnership, was recently convicted of fraud in an unrelated matter in which Archer invoked Biden's name to bolster his own credibility between 2014 and 2016 as he defrauded the Wakpamni Lake Community Corporation through the sale of $60 million in tribal bonds.
One final thing to note is that for some conservatives, the laptop story has become bigger than just a story about a laptop. Many conservative news outlets are angry about how other news outlets refused to cover the story. They claim that the lack of coverage is a shining example of "mainstream media bias," which treats negative stories about liberals or democrats differently than negative stories about Republicans.

After right wing media peddled a completely fake story for years (birtherism) and despite all media covering Benghazi 24x7 for years they have little room to bitch.

I agree.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this Biden story. At the very least he was involved with some sleazy folks. If it turns out he was doing something illegal I hope his is prosecuted to the full extent of the law and that his status as the son of the President does not impede the investigation.

Do you recall that just before the election of 2020 and this information first was released that not only did the mainstream media ban any mention of this information, but that the New York Post article and additional articles were banned from multiple platforms? Do you recall that members of prior administrations lied about this information as if it was a Russian plant? It was a scripted political coverup by party activists along with willing members of the media to hide, lie about and conceal the facts in this case so it wouldn't impact the election.

Why yes, I do. That was because the source and content were UNVERIFABLE at the time. It would have been irresponsible.

Now we know SOME of the emails (not all) can be verified.

We still have no reason to believe this wasn't an iCloud hack and the laptop story is fake. We have no reason to believe that ALL of the emails are authentic. In point of fact, MANY cannot be verified. The chain of custody here is absolute shit and ANY amount of info could have been added to the authentic data in the hack. In fact, that's a classic Russian disinfo tactic. To release authentic info along with fake.

Responsible reporters don't run with unverified rumors. Especially when the source claimed to have sat on the content for a year and released it an an OCT surprise.

It was a scripted political hack job. Was Rudy ACTUALLY interested in the "truth" he would have released it a year before when he claimed he got it.
