Humble Bundle: Origin Sale (wtf?! Battlefield 3?) - NO money goes to EA!

While I'm a CPA, please do not take this as tax advice.

My opinion is that the IRS would allow you to only deduct the amount of your "contribution" that is in excess of the 'value of goods and services received'. Many nonprofits will tell you what this value is. But in this case Humble Bundle is silent.

I think you would have a hard time justifying to the IRS that you received less value from all of those games than what you paid for them (especially considering their recent retail prices).

So short answer: no

It does say the value.
$215.

Pay what you want

The items in this bundle would normally cost around $215, but we're letting you set the price

with the huge success of this bundle hopefully other big devs will follow suit and offer their bundles for charity

Are the charity tax-deductible?

No, because you are getting something worth the donation or more.

Tax deductible is only for the part you give and don't get something back.

So when PBS gives you a $40 item for a $200 donation, you're only supposed to deduct $160.

Managed to get it from another source but thank you very much 🙂

There doesn't appear to be any way to translate these Steam keys into gifts right? Only way to give them as a gift would just be to give the person the key?

You can't like do a "add game serial key to gifts" rather than owned games, right?

nope, but you could print out a nice voucher with the key on it on glossy paper with some background picture related to the game 😛
or you could write it on a greeting card

ALL proceeds goes to charity and humble! Alot of the games include steam keys in addition to origin keys!! Props to EA for awesome value and nice gesture to charity  This BF3 premium player is anxiously waiting for steam to finish up MoH DL!

I was just thinking how I would like to try out Battlefield 3

The last time I played a "Battlefield" anything was the Battlefield 1942 demo on the Japanese island. The first "Battlefield" anything which ever came out.

I loved it. Not entirely sure why I never got the full game or any of the games in the series since.

But CS:GO has been problematic for me lately (crashing computer) and I thought maybe it'd be fun to try one of these other things people are always going on about, COD or BF. BF seemed like the better option.

Was going to grab BF2 on Steam but getting BF3 for practically free is nice.

Origin won't even complete installation though right now, can't get updates... must be their servers just being destroyed.

So, I'm not sure if people just assumed they got two copies of some games or what... but I wish people would actually check before spreading bullshit. At least in the case of Medal of Honor, you need your Origin key even if you used steam to activate it.

Please make sure you're actually checking on this stuff before you give all your keys away guys. I figured the origin keys would still be used but I needed to get home to test it.

Sorry, they must have changed it. When I played Medal Of Honor on Steam a few months ago, it didn't require an Origin key of any sort.

lol

Much as I hate to say it, but... well done EA.

But it also shows how weak their on-line system is - can't get Origin to do anything...

It's not really a big deal if you do. Pay another dollar and get more. It's a dollar. 100 pennies.

Sure sign of the apocalypse. Wish this bundle came with ammo to fend off teh zombie horde.

That might be true of the single player half, and the other single player games. I went straight into MP though and it asked for the origin key. Didn't try others yet.

True (with a different email address at least). But that doesn't mean people should be misinformed.

Sometimes when you need additional keys you can find them via the View CD key option in Steam. Seems weird they would have a need for both with one game but not tell you that.

Oh, you make a good point.

Gorcorps, did you right-click on MoH in Steam and see if there was an option to use a CD key? My Steam version came with it's own key. You may have used that Origin key unecessarily.

Pretty amazing bundle IMO. Wish the Mass Effects would've been included but oh well. I literally don't own a single one of these for PC so it's a great deal...honestly blows away any deal I got during the Steam Summer Sale.

I checked but didn't see one (usually pops up in game when you hit shift+tab
