It is generally HR's job to investigate violations of company policy and to recommend and/or enact disciplinary action.

And remember boys and girls, HR is out to do one thing -- protect the company's interests. Never believe for a minute that they're on "your" side if you have a complaint against the company.

I had an HR manager like that too. I would either ignore or tell him to fuck off. I was one of the top salesmen, so there wasn't anything he could do to me.

I'll give you a run down of the problem. I was asked to check the video conference equipment at 2 for a meeting at 2:15 so I stroll in there and check it out. Everything looks good so I take off because I had another issue come up. I get a call about 20 minutes ago from the HR manager asking if I checked it and I tell her I did. Well turns out they had problems and she asks why I didn't stick around and wait on them. I tell her I had another issue pop up so I couldn't wait around for 15 minutes and she digs further asking what exactly I was doing.

I mean seriously, they have my cell phone but instead of calling they would rather throw their hands up and complain. We have roughly 250 employees here and only myself and a newhire to support them.

is HR in your company in charge of making sure the conference rooms are maintained or did they need the equipment working for something specific?

I've been working at my company for 7.5 years... I don't think I've spoken to anyone in HR since filling out my random just-hired paperwork (401K, gym waiver, direct deposit forms, etc)

Perhaps HR has received complaints about your performance, that you are easy to anger when questioned about issues, and they were testing you.

Any time I've been asked to setup conferencing equipment and make sure it works, I hang around until I see that they have it working. When they said to show up early and make sure it works, they were really saying "help the guys set it up with their equipment if they have any trouble", not "make sure the hardware functions".

Because you blew that, now they suspect you.

The HR Manager is your supervisor, or the meeting was for HR and they wanted to know if everything was ready for their meeting?

If HR is somehow supervising you, this seems like less of an HR rant and more of a 'lack of proper org chart' rant.

If HR was complaining that their meeting was fucked because you didn't stick around or check in to make sure everything was working, sounds like you should get your resume updated.

HR is for the boss that is passive aggressive. So instead of telling you that your contract will not be renewed with enough time to find more work they just let things work themselves out.

At many companies HR is the supreme power.
Their number one priority is to keep people from suing the company. And I dunno if you've been paying attention to American law since the 80's but suing a large company is probably the easiest money you can possibly come by. And it can shut down a powerful, successful business overnight.

I'm not bitching at them for not knowing what to do, I'm bitching because they didn't even try contacting me when I specifically told one user "If you run into any problems, call me.". Cell phones are pretty common these days....

I setup up the video conference! The HR folks aren't good video conference, they're too dumb to dial a phone number. So I take the number and input it for them. Don't you get it! They're not good with video! What's wrong with you people?
