Tornado come from T storms.

Knowing that there are T storms coming allows one to prepare for potential problems.

Most people are surprised by storms when they come;

You can not prevent these storms but can be ready to react.

If people in New England would actually pay attention to the weather reports coming in from the rust belt; they would know what will happen in 2 days time.

In Natural Sciences (H.S.) we had to predict the weather 1,3 7 days out for a semester. Performance had an impact on the semester grade.

All one had to do was pick up the Boston Globs and look at the weather outlook for Buffalo. Temp and precipitation dead on for 1 day lead. Then look at Chicago for the 3 day lead and the West Coast for the precip for 7 day lead.

There is useful information in the weather maps besides what is at your door at the moment. Plenty of chance to then prepare for trouble.

Tell the to the local weather stations that everyone watches and are wrong as often as they're right.

Then we'll know when to launch our tornado dispersing surface to air missiles.

LOL....you make it seem like whenever there is a thunderstorm there will be a tornado.

Most do not get to the ground - they are up there waiting for a trailer park to be located.

Mass people should check what the actual weather is over in Albany in morning. that is what they can expect in the afternoon.

Maybe if you're in Western MA. Not all weather comes from the west. Lots come up the seaboard and also some storm fronts come in from the ocean.

During the first intermission, channel 5 cut away to the Deval Patrick emergency press conference. Did anyone else see the repeated lightning strikes on the Pru while the National Guard guy was speaking?

The reports this morning are some pretty widespread damage. Ugh.

Of course you are aware that depending on the direction and speed of the winds on a given day the weather in Albany in the morning could pass to the north or even south of Mass or be completely through Mass and over the ocean by the afternoon.

What a mess. I live in Monson, the center of town is closed and there's been no power almost everywhere since last night. Luckily my family and I are ok, we escaped the tornadoes wrath. Other peolpe are not so fortunate, losing houses and cars among other things.

To the guy saying "just check the weather you Massholes" (not direct quote), well the weather service did not indicate the possibility of a tornado in our area until early to mid afternoon, roughly 2-3 hours before the tornado struck. I don't know about you, but that's not much warning. Most people were not even home at the time. The weather service indicated severe thunderstorms were possible in isolated areas, which is not uncommon for the area. Tornadoes? wtf, the last one I heard of was in '79, before I was even born.

why didn't you just look at the 7 day forecast for your own city?

Did you also post this in the Joplin thread?

We had some nasty storms roll through earlier in the day yesterday, but the big ones that came up from MA missed my house. My parents (an hour south of me) reported some huge thunderstorms, but it just missed me. My dad called to give me a heads up, at which point I unplugged everything in the house, and a buddy and I sat on the porch with some beers. Had a pretty awesome light show in the field across from my house, but didn't even so much as rain.

Must be pretty bad up there. I hope those in the New England area are doing okay. Got a text message this morning; my son was just sent out on storm duty for the next 5 days. Usually, one tornado isn't enough to call in crews from out of state, so there must be a lot of damage in the area.

Buffalo is typically 24 hours behind Chicago, not 48 hours. What you're saying is relatively true, but it doesn't predict more volatile weather patterns, i.e. major storms, very well.

I'm just south of you in CT and you guys really got nailed just like Springfield. And I was in the same boat, just happened to hear about the tornado warning/watch about 2 hours before they hit when I just by accident noticed them on the WFSB website.

The one in 79 (from what I'm told as I was just an infant) was more devastating as it stayed on the ground more and even hit the airport.

I live on the edge of Springfield and Wilbraham. Pretty much half of Parker St. is shut down. Tinkham Rd in Wilbraham is all in ruins, Monson got hit bad too. Parts of East Longmeadow is without power (maybe most?)

I was without power for about 8 hours, but I hear some may go without for days if not a week. There are lines down all over the place; trees all over the place, etc.

Such a mess. :( I almost got blown away trying to secure windows from the outside.

Had a tornado touch down less than a mile from my house, also had hail bigger than walnuts raining down at several different times. Got lucky up here in Maine, no real damage to any of my property but it looks like Springfield got fuct. :(

NH got some nasty hail, a friend in Berlin txt'd me a pic of him holding a tennis ball in one hand and a chunk of hail in the other. They were the same size!

Yeah seems like there is a lot of property damage, downed trees, and people without power. Thankfully, there do not seem to be many casualties.

Due to global climate change, New England hereby changes its name to New Oklahoma.

Take heart that in a few thousand years the weather might return to normal.

You should stop acting like you know what you're talking about before you REALLY make yourself look stupid.

Nope, sorry, too late...
