There was no separation of church & state when the crusaders took Jerusalem, slaughtered the inhabitants, or when the Turks took Constantinople & did the same, either. Whole towns were put to death in the wars of the Reformation, so as to save their souls. The Holocaust was an expression of religion.

So many killings and crimes against humanity have nothing to do with religion, past and present. I'm not defending religion as much as I am willing to enlighten you and remind you that the more recent killing sprees are due to human stupidity.

I'm no great fan of LL, but I'm pretty sure he's saying that Huckabee is wrong to suggest that introducing religion into the equation would have prevented this act of violence because there is, after all, much violence which is motivated by religion. Not quite the same thing as saying there isn't any violence not motivated by religion, which is the position you seem to be ascribing to him.
