HTC EVO 4G training begins at Sprint, requires special plan

Considering there's no 4g within about 400 miles of me I'm inclined to say FU sprint.

But my only other option is a droid incredible for $90/mo so it's still less money for a better phone with slightly worse 3g... but I think it's still worth it

You think the incredible is a better phone? Really?

3.7 inch Amoled vs 4.3 LCD. There are advantages and disadvantages to amoled, but for sunlight viewing the lcd wins. And of course the bigger screen.

740MB ROM vs 1GB. No brainer.

8GB internal memory vs 0. Incredible wins this, but with SD cards, is it really a big deal?

Single 8MP camera vs 8MP AND 1.3 front facing. No brainer.

Video recording resolution: 800x480 vs 1280x720 (true high def). No brainer.

TV out: microUSB vs HDMI. No brainer.

Battery: 1300mAh vs 1500mAh. No brainer.

EVO *is* a bit bigger though.

Pricing? Sprint, even with the add ons and no discounts given, is still cheaper.

Bottom line? Incredible is, well, not so incredible anymore. I mean, its a nice phone, but....

But hey. If you like Verizon better, in spite of the lesser hardware, then vote with your wallet 😉

how do you expose yourself to new music if you're only ever listening to the same mp3's over and over again?

I don't hear anything new on local radio. Maybe if I listen a week out of every couple of months. Pandora finds me new music, heh. Or whever I randomly decide to hit up NPR's world music cafe. But I'm also fairly content listening to the same mp3's over and over again =)

I think Sprint's trying to market the $10 a something that isn't just for 4G. They claim this is for features like the video chatting and the larger screen (which will lead to more data usage).
That's exactly how they are spinning it. This new phone will make ppl want to use more data. Lame.

I've got a question only vaguely related to this thread. I'm interested in getting premiere status before I get the EVO. I'm currently on the EPRP for $60/mo. If I switch to the $70/mo Everything 450 plan, I'll get premiere status. However, is that still true even if I apply a corporate discount to bring my monthly bill back down below $60/mo?

Am I the only one that wasn't very impressed with this? Sure, its faster than Sprint's current 3G, and sure its a recorded speed vs theoretical speed, but I recall T-Mobile's HSPA+ test in Philadelphia already checking in faster than that, despite being only "3G".

Well, NY does not have 4g at the moment.
Sprint had to temporarily duplicate 4G signal for the event which was not as fast.
People were only getting about 2mbps in NY.
A press guy said he usually gets around 6mbps-10mbps in Philly with Wimax there.
I have T-mobile now in orlando and its so spotty.
They are so vague about having HSPA+ available to 180millions people by the end of the year. Its like where ??
At least Sprint listed the cities to where they are expanding Wimax.

T-Mobile doesn't exactly have a good 3G network. I'd hardly count on them when it comes to HSPA+.

Exactly. This is why I plan on jumping ship back to Sprint once EVO and wimax comes to Orlando.
I recently dumped my SERO for T-mobile because of the HD2 but I knew full well that I could be jumping back to Sprint with the EVO.
The HD2 only cost me $100 so with the $200 ETF, the phone will cost me $300.
I can sell it for ~$400 easily.
I'm just so disappointed that Sprint decided to tack on the $10 surcharge.

Its not big, but its usually fine if you're in a more populated area. I've had T-Mobile since 2002 (brief 5 month stint with Verizon notwithstanding), most of that time in Philadelphia, more recently in Seattle, and their coverage has been just fine.

The point remains though - the 3G service of a carrier with well-known 3G issues is faster than this touted 4G wireless. I'm sorry, I'm just not all that impressed.

Why would you leave SERO and get an HD2 when you knew about the EVO being released on Sprint?

Now you have to jump back and forth.

I've never sold a thing on ebay but am considering trying to unload my Pre in mid-June. I really want the EVO but don't want to wait until December. I dislike the Pre that much. 😛

Anyone know of any other ways to get around the ridiculously high cost of buying a phone without discount?

ETF + new contract is often cheaper than the actual full price of the phone.

SERO was the original $30.
I would have leave SERO for EVO anyway.
Why doesn it matter ?? I didn't lose anything.
You try different wireless service and see how they are.
I will make money from the HD2 anyway if I sell it.

I know what SERO is, I have it.

Pay Sprint ETF
Buy HD2
Pay Tmobile ETF
Buy EVO

Was this the route you took? If so all I'm saying that it seems to be a lot of hassle rather than just waiting for the EVO to be released.

If anyone is interested I just got off the phone with employee accounts. I was told June 4th is the drop date, and those on SERO legacy can upgrade to EPRP, and that for those accounts there is NOT a $10 EVO data charge. That charge is only for consumer plans. Good news indeed.

No I was out of contract.
Buy HD2 through corporate BOGO free for $100.
No activation fee.
Took very little time in porting my number over.
Tmobile ETF $200+$100 = $300 phone(Phone is worth at least ~$400)
And I'm not going to jump back to Sprint until they get 4G here.
I'm not paying $10 extra for just having the phone when I have basically the same thing.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I would be surprised if someone actually pulls that off.

srsly though. srsly!?!?

So ERP so not get the 10 dollar fee?

Thats what I was told. I also just called back and spoke to someone else, and they said the same thing.

edit: I just called AGAIN and asked and was told "as far as I know the $10 EVO data fee will apply to employee referral accounts".

So I guess Sprint hasnt released official word to employees yet. 2/3 say no, 1 says yes. Guess we'll see lol

Sounds like some sort of word-wrangling going on there. Maybe they meant EPRP will still cost $10 less than Everything Data just like it does now. It's likely someone heard that and misinterpreted it since both amounts are $10.
