The HTC EVO 4G has already turned up in Sprint's inventory, hit the FCC, and pushed away anything in its path, and it looks like it's now hit one more milestone on its way to availability: the all-important Sprint employee training program. While there's still no indication of an actual release date, the training materials do reveal a few new details, including the first real indication that customers who buy the phone will also have to sign up for special "plans designed for the HTC EVO 4G" -- details on those plans remain a mystery, unfortunately. The materials also seem to suggest that both Sprint Navigation and Google Navigation will be present on the device, that the hotspot feature will support WEP and WPA encryption, and that phone does indeed pack an FM radio. Hit up the source link below for a look at the rest of the materials.

Dammit so the Evo is going to need special plans for it. That really sucks for existing customers.

Dude, stop overacting.
Noone knows anything.
If anything, Sprint will charge extra for hotspot.
Sprint is not going to charge extra for 4g when its not available everywhere.

I dunno. Since 4G is only available in a very limited number of markets, they can't do anything groundbreaking here. The one thing I can tell you about working for big companies like Sprint is that they love their trainings. The employees getting a training on a new product is nothing to get excited about. The fact that the Evo brings some additional bolt ons should be expected and the employees are going to need training on said bolt ons. I've been through more stupid trainings on stupid nothing products than you can imagine.

Now there is a very good possibility that I am 100% wrong and Sprint will do something completely idiotic and make a special rate plan just for this phone. We just need to relax and wait.

But this is the internets! That means we have to make completely ridiculous and unfounded assumptions on things about which we know nothing! ;)

LOL

I'm usually all over having a speculation debate but I know first hand how very unimportant this is. Heck...I have had 3 trainings in the past month and can honestly tell you that I didn't learn a single thing in any of them. We had a 1/2 hour training to tell us that there were no changes to our billing system.

Sprint is really shooting themselves in the foot here if they require a special plan. If they were Verizon, then they would have the luxury of charging more.

Sprint should think about gaining as many new customers as possible.

we don't know what "special plan" even means. every smartphone requires a "special plan" on sprint.. it's called the everything data plan (aside from any oddball loopholes or those still stringing along on SERO or prepaid options).

Damn. Deep in my heart I am willing to pay more for 4G, and for the hotspot. I hope they don't know this lol.

I agree they should try to steal customers by not charging more (except hotspot).

I'm still getting one either way. I live in a 4G market (Atlanta), so I'd be ok with an extra charge to use 4G. Now I just have to decide if I want to pay for the mobile hotspot service or not...

The best reason I can come up with is listening to local sports on the radio when you can't be near a TV or need to get information at the game.

I read somewhere that someone at HTC insisted on an FM radio for when they go to the gym then can listen to the TVs via the FM broadcast deal that most gyms use without having to bring a separate radio/mp3 player that has an FM receiver. Also, this was posted on the android forums...

I could care less about my job, so therefore I'll give you guys the scoop. I want you to understand, I am on a paid vacation, buy the companies for delivering in a timely the gold copy, and 4 days early. (4G stuff). I am sure this vat of liquor has blessed me with super powers, but piss on it..who cares right?.

1) Pre orders will take place on May 21st at BB and Radio Shack

2) Pre orders are going to be filled on May 29th

3) June 6th will be general public for everyone else.

This is a planned designed to give Sprint a opportunity to scale what demand will be. If demand is out of control on May 21st. Then Sprint will pay a expedition fee to meet the demands by consumer with respect to May 21st.

Soo..yesss..for heavens sake..if you go and pre order on the 21st you will get your EVO this month.

Cheers,

Why does it sound like they charge you $10 more even if you aren't in a 4G covered area?

I'm not sure. The P.R. wording is weird and it seems like it'd be a mandatory $10 charge even though 4G might not be in your area? If so, that's absolutely ridiculous. They cannot be that stupid.

Edit: Just got the email from sprint about it. $10 data is mandatory for the $60 Business Plan. The regular Everything Data plans will include 4G.

But I can get the full experience, minus 4g and hotspot (meaning full normal 3g service) for $70/mo with the everything data plan?

I know I'm gonna be getting one
