So funny Walt shits on battery while Chris praises it. I'm going with Chris. Walt is kind of old...and he's an Apply fanboi.

I don't think Mossberg would lie about the Sprint reps saying that 4G should be turned off unless you are using it, so that right there should be an indication of its potential battery drain. I can't see how anyone would be surprised that it would be a battery hog, especially since this is one of the first WIMAX phones and the tech is still pretty immature, relatively speaking.

I'm just going to pay full price for this thing because I hate my POS Pre. I had to add yet another 'small piece of paper' into that POS hardware yesterday (power button stopped connecting properly). It's sad too because I really like Web OS, just hate the Pre hardware.

The one thing I didn't like from Engadgets review is the camera, just like the Incredible. That thing is going to get beat to crap sitting out there like that, doesn't make much sense why they didn't recess the glass a bit or something.

Shadow and Droid 2 are supposedly still on pace for June/July so hoping to see something sweet from Motorola...

Interesting read. Just makes me really wish June 4th was already here. It looks like the review has confirmed you can use 4G and make calls at the same time.

The upgradeability issue is really the only major point that is preventing me from pre-ordering. I mean, how long is it going to be until Sense phones get 2.2? Months? It took several months for phones to get 2.1 I don't want to wait months for the supposed speed advantages that 2.2 brings.

It took the Droid several months to get 2.1 and its a Google Experience device. The G1 and MyTouch - also Google Experience devices - are still on 1.6.

Yes, there will always be a bit more of a delay with a Sense device, but in the end, its not like the GE devices are immediate either.

That's how my HD2 is. I found it odd that while they mentioned some comparisons to the HD2, they left this out and acting like the Evo is so outlandish for this.

Honestly, I don't really like the camera sticking out, but more because its annoying, not because it gets beat up. Granted I'm only two months in but my camera is still in perfect condition.

I think you can exchange it for free if your power button stops working at Sprint. I've read that on Precentral forums.

Im pretty siked for this phone, I love WebOS, but if Palm doesn't upgrade their hardware soon i'll probably switch to this or similar device. July 15th is my early upgrade, so i'll be ready soon.

I'm not sure yet. I have always bitched about sprints coverage, but my friend lent me his phone yesterday and i had great coverage everywhere.

That said I have a few concerns.

1) Android 2.2 will have wireless hotspot support. Currently sprint said they want to charge you 30.00 a month to do this with the evo on 2.1. Does this mean the evo will never get 2.2 with free hot spot support?

2) How hard will this thing be to root?

3) This is a ethical problem and not a technical one. Why is sprint charging 10.00 more a month for this phone when there isn't a 4G network in a 100 miles of where I live? It's like a privilege fee for having the phone.

I'm on the fence. I know I'm replacing my iphone 3gs this year. I'm sick of apple's practices. I just don't know if it's going to be the EVO or the N1.

Even without 4g you're going to be using a lot more 3g data with this phone than other phones

Not anymore then I would use with my iphone on ATT or the N1 on tmobile's service. It bother's me they want to charge me 79.00 a month for the same service as someone with any other phone on their network paying 69.00

3) I believe the reasoning for the $10/month is that with this phone, you are more likely to use their data services more intensely (i.e. use more bandwidth) due to it's high connectivity.

I hated the $10 with a passion but it been beating to death and its not going to go away so deal with it if you want to get the phone.
What irked me if that Sprint made a big fuss about not charging extra and then they come out with the $10.
Even though its cheaper than ATT and Verizon, its like we were embedded with the thought of a $69.99 everything plan with a great phone and then they hit us with the $10.

Sucks for me, because I don't live in Sprint's 4G, or even 3G footprint, yet I'll still have to pay the extra $10 a month for the EVO. We're used to slow data speeds here in Maine. I mainly want the EVO for its screen size, Sense UI, and its specs. This will be my 3rd Android phone, and it's definitely looking like THE Android phone to get.

lol, really? Why would that be the case? Because the screen is bigger it takes more bandwidth to load the site? I think not.

Would you be more likely to spend more time on data with a brand new fast phone or some crappy old blackberry from 2 years ago? Are you gonna be downloading more apps on the new flagship android phone or some old WM6.1 brick?

It's a pretty simple idea, and it makes sense... >.>

Except that Sprint already has modern devices like the Pre, the Moment & Hero, BB Tour...

Obviously the Evo is a step above those phones, but they certainly are still in its class as modern smartphones that are better for data-intensive tasks than the old smartphones.

Precisely. The comparison should be drawn to the phones Deeko mentioned, in addition to ones like the Droid, the iPhone, etc, etc. The users of those phones use a lot more data than 'normal' users as well.

While I don't think the $10 is outrageous, I think it is laughable to claim it is for some "premium" experience because the EVO is so data intensive. They should just say hey, we are building out 4G, and this is a 4G phone, so you gotta pay the premium.

That's just Sprint's justification for the $10. On a macro scale it's certainly understandable. There will be higher data on their network as a whole usage once this comes out, and people will pay the $10. I don't really blame them.

10 bucks aside, I'm still worried about tethering and the 2.2 update. I have a lot of research to do.

I already compared it to iphone, droid, and droid incred, all of which it's still cheaper than

sprint usually gives us 2 free strawberry lillipops. Now they're giving us just one strawberry lollipop. It's still better than no lollipops from ATT/Verizon ;)

Battery life of less than a day on 4G is disappointing...

It's the same with any other smartphone. Battery tech is laggin behind. You aren't going to get a full day of heavy use with Hero, Pre, Droid, Incredible, or N1 either.
