HT

If you have HT supported CPU, I don't see the reason you should not. Of course it has some downsides, but most cases, it's useful. (As long as you use WinXP with the latest patch or 2003)

i did soem benchmarks...

Quake3 Demo four - time Demo :

With HT - 225.5 fps
Without HT - 225.8 fps

3DMark2001SE(330) :

With HT - 11873
Without Ht - 11973

mmm, is the multi tasking much better with HT?

Ice, the only reason that hyperthreading exists is for multitasking, although a few apps, mostly ones that involve encoding, can benefit substantially from it. And, there isn't any difference between 225.5 fps and 225.8 fps! That's a 1.3% difference, and your 3dMark scores are less than 1% difference. Are you trying to tell us that you can see/tell a 1% difference? I didn't think so... Just leave it on. Or, hey, give it to me!!

O.. Im not complaining!!! Just Curious! 😉
Don't get me wrong, I was merely saying that your scores didn't actually change on the 2 examples you gave. I get as much as 100 points diff in 3dMark 2k1, at exactly the same clock speeds myself, and I don't even have HT! But, I'd sure like to have it!!

I have to admit that mostgaming apps do not take advantage of HT...the benefits of HT in single app uses will only occur in apps that are generally geared towards dual or multiple procesors and hence are multi-threaded....Myocardia is right encoding genre of uses seems to be the big winner in this field...

The multi-tasking world is the real mind blower and will have you really considering if the athlon64 is all that and a bag of chips...Check ou my review and see what I put it through...NO athlon is doing that and I am sure of it!!!

The only disadvantage I am aware of is that with HT on you may have higher cpu temps under load....I really didn't notice but maybea 1.5-2c difference on my system...

Also I ran all my test with windowx xp home edition on a fresh install W/O SP1 and latest patches so everydae that is not a necessity....I reommend having latest patches but HT works as advertised without them....
