HP: WebOS devices are dead

wow. That was quick. I knew it was bad when I saw the tablet on Woot but I figured HP would keep it going for years despite the lack of success. That's usually the HP and other big bureaucratic company way. I mean HP supported iPaq for like a decade.

Expect HP to sell off WebOS and Palm patents with its PC business. I expect the buyer for both to be Samsung.

Yep.

If HTC has any cash, they might be interested too. HP paid 1.2 B for Palm, they'll sell it for 1/2 to 2/3rd the price with the TouchPad failure in public view...

WebOS needs someone that'll give it some much needed attention.

Guess the TouchPad is dead meat.

Wow.

There's still one day left in the week, what next?

What clueless fucks are running HP, anyway? I say this as someone who doesn't think webOS is all that like some people do, but it had a TON of potential.

HTC has no synergies with the PC business. Samsung does. And they want to shore up Bada. It's just a good fit for them. How many patents did Palm have?

Now I might pick up the the HP WebOS tablet. How low you think the price will go? $199 could get me to bite.

Wow. I knew that the TouchPad wasn't exactly flying off shelves, but I didn't expect them to throw in the towel that quickly.

So, all that's left is for them to put webOS on PC's and printers?

Sucks for those that just bought a Touchpad. Hope they can return them.

Good stuff, too many mobile OS's anyways. Symbian and WebOS down the drain, Blackberry OS should be next. Developers aren't going to port apps to 10 different platforms, 3 is already alot.

Let iOS, Android and WinPhone battle it out.

It looks like HP might keep the WebOS software and kill off the phones and tablets, but it makes no difference.

I was just talking about this at work, Samsung or HTC. Also, thank god I returned my Touchpad for a refund yesterday.

I remember Palm WebOS devices early on were the only ones that had multi-touch on them other than iPhone and others couldn't because of patents so I wonder what patents Palm has and if they are big patents then who would pay to get them.

why would anyone buy webos? almost no developer support for it

The UI for webOS is one of the best out there. At very least, the concept for the UI is the best. It had so much potential, and it looked like it might have a shot.

This is just disappointing.
