Every single Best Buy I've checked around here (MD) has none in stock, and they all say they won't be receiving anymore shipments either. :\

i went to the best buy in pentagon city yesterday in the middle of the day, around 2pm. it is like a 10 minute walk from work so a coworker and i went over there because the inventory tracker said they had some in store.

i get there and don't see anything, then ask the woman at customer service about em, and she said they had some but they had been gone since 7 or 8am. i didn't even know best buy opened that early... or maybe employees just snagged them up before they opened.

either way, i can't blame the employees for grabbing them. i'd do the same if i were them.

but i guess what im trying to say is that inventory tracker is not up to date at all heh.

Picked up one on a whim today. Stopped by my local BB at 9:57 AM this morning just before they opened to see a line of about 30 people standing in front of the store already. I got in line just as an employee with a small stack of paper stepped out. She asked the first person in line a question, handed him a piece of paper and went on to the next person. It turns out they were allocation slips for TouchPads. By the time she got to me, she had 3 slips left and the only one still available was the 16GB model. Which was fine with me.

As an interesting note, I see that a couple people ended up receiving Touchpads that had a Qualcomm innovation center build of Android 2.2.1 on them. And one of those people dumped the ROM for RootzWIKI.

It will be interesting to see how fast it will be for Android to be easily flashed onto the TouchPad now that they have a working ROM w/drivers. I'd imagine that will speed up development immensely.

Best Buy employees have a very nasty stereotype of buying half the copies of a new game, opening gadgets & playing with them, and listening to music they never pay for.

Would not be surprised if they sold themselves all the Touchpads before opening when HP announced the price slash.

Wow. That's great news. Touchpad just got more valuable.

Best buy @ Fair City in Fairfax is supposed to be getting 40 tomorrow whenever the truck gets there. I'm planning to bring my laptop and camp out there for most of the day... You're welcome to join me on the wild goose hunt.

Looks like it's time to cash in a favor from a friend...

Picked up the last two touchstones from my local Staples. Their system still has them tagged at $49.99, but they have an internal email saying that people just need to bring a print of any local retail competitor's price and they'll match it. I flashed the cashier Walmart.com's price on my phone, he price match it down to $35 each.

D'oh! Staples said they were $80 online (yesterday), so I didn't go there. I ended up ordering one online for much more and now I have to wait. :\

I'm assuming you went to the one on Memorial? What I'm surprised is that they actually price matched to Walmart.com, because Wal-Mart will not price match their own website (the Wal-Mart on Memorial had some in stock yesterday, but for $80).

Oh well, I bought one online from some dude on Amazon... I'll have to wait a bit for it though. :(

No, I went to the one on 72 in Madison. It probably helped the the General Manager was right there and the cashier had already gotten into trouble for going into the GM's email to find the pricematch memo that went out this morning.

FWIW, they still have the demo Touchpad there. I asked, they said there's no way for regular people to use it, so they're not selling it. I said, "Oh there's a way..." But still didn't bother.

Saw an entry with a link to a site that bypasses the new regular hulu block.

What!? Ugh, I swore I wasn't going to listen to online inventory checkers again, but I trusted Staples as it said the one on 72 was out of stock.

I'm not sure if the "fix" for the demo units is widely known? I know there's a community fix, but didn't HP either issue a fix or simply allow them to register?

Just got my touchpad in the mail.

Not impressed. No fault of the touchpad, but Internet on a tablet just feels vastly inferior to a computer. It's a giant cell phone.

That shows you how far smart phones have gotten. Except that smart phones can't handle Flash as well.

For most things without a mouse/keyboard, the browser experience is going to be similar to a smartphone or tablet.

Got my touchpad today as well and, wow, what a cludgy tablet. It's slow, occasionally freezes up at random, and while web browsing I noticed many times chopped text. Scrolling webpages also has a herky-jerky type of feel to it.

Processing power be-damned I say a 1st gen iPad mops the floor with it as far as web browsing and responsiveness goes. Even the plastic buttons on wiggle around and feel cheap. It's like they got it 80% of the way there with some nice features tossed in, but completely skimped out on any real optimization to make it all gel together.

I'm not sure right now if I'll hold out on this for an android port. I may just flip it on ebay and wash my hands of it.

Update it and disable the logging features. It's written that makes it MUCH faster and responsive.

As a reminder guys, this isn't FS/FT. If you want to buy a TouchPad, you need to put up a WTB post in the FS/FT forum. We're not trying to be too strict here, but there are a lot of people wanting TouchPads and we have a whole forum dedicated to that.

oh well.. it's best to actually spend the 3-4 days working and get an ipad, rather than spend 3-4 days looking for one, and maybe not score one!

but... if you stumble onto one... congrats!
