I'm really close to pulling trigger on one of these. I'm just looking for something to last two years or so and then move on to next machine. Dont do heavy gaming (dont need anything more than 40 fps or so) so thats not the main draw. And of course will have to updgrade the video card.

But is there a real good reason NOT to get this?

Current system is Barton 2500 and that Acer deal at CC is no go in my neck of the woods.

some ATI chipset motherboards exhibit lower disk and usb performance than, for example, nforce4 boards.
whether this unit does to a noticable degree I couldnt say...

Not any I can think of. Yeah, you'd need to add a GPU if you plan on doing any real gaming but after picking up a used one on the FS/FT forum, you're still coming out really good on a system that should hold you over for a while. May want to also consider adding another gig of RAM if you plan on playing upcoming releases but 1GB is fine if you don't mind the lower FPS

daddyphatsax, I just got the MSI 7600GS on newegg for 114, this is for the Acer system with Sempron 3200.
The card got pretty good reviews and hopefully wont tax the 300W PSU too much. Regardless, it will be a decent
step up from the onboard graphics.

Hope everyone else is doing okay with these. Mine only came with 512 MB memory, and it shot fire from the power supply when turned on. Never seen flames come from a ps...
🙁

Wow, was afraid of that. I'm not terribly happy with customer service from Outpost, so thats main reason I passed on this. Great price, but doing returns is a pain.

Good luck!

Just call HP and get the missing ram. It's not that difficult. They have an 800 #.......

I ordered one of these a few days ago. I also ordered one of the Gateway systems 836GM from recoupIT for $399.
I am going to keep one of these systems for myself. Which is the better system?

Thanks for any help or advice.

that depends on if a gaming card is going to be added, whether games are even played, etc.
if just working/multitasking, the gateway

Thanks, just bought it for the grandparents who were in the market for a monitor-less computer. Perfect box for them.

Stupid Outpost. Ordered the computer, got the confirmation... About 6 hours later I received another email stating that they "regretfully have to inform me that I'm not getting the computer because it's out of stock" What a bunch of crap.

Just received mine today. However, all of the software say Compaq (Everything) No mention of HP, that does not matter to me.

The system has XP Home Installed not Media Center. Also, no cds or restoration software was included.

The Hard Drive is not 200GB. It is a ST380011A 80GB.

I cannot wait to call Outpost in the morning.

Sorry to dredge up this old thread but ended up buying a different computer there. I got this for $199 with a 256MB upgrade for $25, shipping brought it to $241. Wasn't nearly as hot but not bad for the parents...
