I spoke with Outpost this morning. They said that a number of these were sent out with the wrong hard drive and OS. The rep took my serial number and promised me HP would be contacting me to send out the correct hard drive. Hope it works.

Mine arrived yesterday. I got exactly what was advertised - HP a1245c 1GB ram, 200GB disk minus a recovery partition, athlon64 3700, dvdrom and lightscribe dvd burner.

Heatsink was loose so the cpu temp was dangerously high - took some effort to get a satisfactory fit - seems like the stock clips just don't quite provide enough pressure even after I cleaned off the supplied thermal compound and replaced it with arctic silver. That's probably why it ended up a refurb. Interesting, the speedfan SMART monitor shows the hdd has had nearly 2000 hours of spinning and the cpu fan had some tell-tale dust collections...

Took a long time to make the recovery dvd's - 2 of the suckers. Heavy beast - solidly built but the top panel has some annoying vibration from the PS fan - even when the case and heatsink fan are off. Might need to stick some vibration absorbing material to it.

All in all, a very reasonable machine ($299 shipped to MA) once I fixed the heatsink issue. Thanks OP.

Update: Bah! Humbug!
Suspicious, I left mine running overnight - it had shut itself down by morning. It's going back - hey I get to own a refurbed refurb, or is it a rerefurb? Whatever, the indian call center chapy was pleasant. Getting fedex to pick this up will be a challenge - they won't take it from outside the house - someone has to be home. Might have to ship from work.
