Do you have it resting on a blanket? Get a stand man.

It does look nice 🙂

The bezel doesn't look too wide....Maybe you should run and pick up the other one for some huge dual monitor gaming!

Looks good OP. Let us know if there are any issues sitting close to a 42" screen after you've had a chance to use it for awhile.

there are sometimes deals on the NEC ones also. though its really hard to justify unless its like $500 given you can sometimes buy 50" tvs for $500-600 now.

because you didn't know how to set it up right.

LCD with tuner is optimized for images. there are settings to make it look good in PC (mostly text) mode.

My samsung in the family room looks like shit unless i spend like 15 mins changing all the settings around and then it becomes passable okay. However i have to change it all back once i am done :\ Too much hassle IMHO. As long as it works for him then more power to him.

head over to AVS forum and do some reading..

LOL! I have...they give you all these instructions on how to make font look better on a TV, I didn't have to do any tweaking at all...

Hey, maybe it IS a TV (I don't think it is) but if so, then it's the best one out for a crisp, clear desktop...

I understand that, it's a monitor. But what is it's advantage over a TV? It's still 1080P, the biggest advantage of monitors is that typically their resolution increases with size (30" monitors have 2560x1600 res, as an example). But this 42" is still just a 1080P display labled as a monitor. I'm not knocking it, I just don't understand what the difference is.

What makes it better than the TV below at $120 more?

Without all the TV image processing crap, it might have much less input lag than a TV

Another advantage, I don't have to buy a second GTX570 or upgrade my PSU for this monitor...

I'm telling you guys, I tried a 32" Samsung LED, 37" LCD, same on LG, and SONY, if you had the resolution at 13xx(X)760 the font was OKAY, but if you went to 1920x1080, it looked like CRAP, and I did all the adjusting with JUST SCAN, 1:1, all that...NONE of them looked as crisp with font and text as this HP does with absolutely NO tweaking...

There are no advantages here, you made terrible mistake. Reason why this one was on clearance is because they have new model. But that's not what's important...
Pretty much any LG or Samsung can look very good in PC mode, and cost less at that size, and they have a tuner, so once you realize 40+ screen is not always good as monitor, you can use them as TV. If TV supports 1080P over VGA, then there's no any image processing, and looks great. Same can be accomplished over HDMI with some tweaking.
Next, your dot pitch is huge. You can see the actual pixels if you put in on screen. Yep, it is big, but resolution is not. Text looks jaggy. Games look terrible without AA.
If you have spent this much, you'd be better off paying few hundred more and buying 27" Dell Ultrasharp (which has much more real estate despite smaller size and will be very useful in upcoming years)... You say you can't return it, eh?

I wouldn't worry too much what others think about it being a tv vs monitor.

The only thing that really matters is if the image and text look sharp to your eyes! It's the quality of the electronics and how they where tweaked that make the image look like it does!

The important thing to decide now is if it meets your expectation and needs and if the image is up to your standards. Don't let your buying purchase decision be swayed by what others are calling it!

Yep, I'm happy with web browsing and gaming...

And I don't see any pixels on screen...(well I do if I put my NOSE right on the screen...LOL!)

Clear as a crystal!

Hey if you can make it work...great!

But again, tried MANY TVs with HDMI and VGA and web browsing looked like CRAP no matter how I set it...

The monitor is basically PLUG AND PLAY, I didn't have to tweak a thing...

Very good purchase IMO 🙂 You will have lots of fun gaming on such a big screen. I know I do! 😀 Just remember to ramp up AA!

I'm glad you like it, that's all that really matters. But from everything I see, this is just a TV without the tuner. Because it doesn't have the tuner, maybe there are some settings from the factory that are set for PC display use, who knows. But, I linked a TV on the first page that is cheaper and similar (actually a faster response time, too). With that you could save money and enjoy it as a TV from time to time... but you may need to take some time setting it up. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new display. New hardware is always fun.
