I think that the voltage Intel puts on the box it's something like the maximum voltage that the mobo should pump into the chip on stock settings. At least that is what I'd like it to be.

Well, it's only an e6600 right? Fry it up if you want to since a replacement will be pretty cheap these days.

hey guys.. back again.. running orthos with E6750 at 3.4 Ghz and im not stable.. getting this error:

FATAL ERROR: Resulting sum was 4662422880705974, expected: 4288770873156524
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.
Torture Test ran 2 minutes 10 seconds - 1 errors, 0 warnings.
Execution halted.

What is the problem here? Should I back off my OC? Vcore at 1.32 Vram at 1.89 and Overvoltage on NB is .1 Volt.

I think you may need a little more vcore, 1.32v isnt that much, maybe a bump to around 1.35v. Also, if you have a fsb voltage or a GTL voltage setting or a VTT setting, you may need to bump it slighly.

I was a newbie on OC and thanks for the OC guides. It was really a awesome overclocking guides.I can OC to 3.0Ghz with prime95 stable at 7 hrs now(core temp =<60c).NB=+0.075,FSB overvoltage =+0.35,Vcore =1.300.And Vcore seem to be too high at 3.0Ghz but am so happy cause at last can passed on prime95,lol.
I got one question not related to this topics, hope yours can help up.In HWMonitor, where are the NB and SB temp readings?

@danielhcn - can you post a screenshot of the app? Not all boards have a SB temp monitor (in fact, I have yet to see one that does)!

hey guys, i'm kinda confused at what i'm doing because i just got a new DS3L motherboard...

If I am running 400 x 8 for 3.2GHZ and I have DDR800 RAM, should I put the DDR divider as 1:1 so it's actually running at 1600MHZ, 2:1 so it's at 800MHZ or 3:1 at 1200MHZ? Technically I am being quad pumped at 1600MHZ for my CPU so it should be 1:1 right?

You base the ratio off the non-quad pumped numbers on the FSB, and technically 1/2 the DRAM.

Example: 8x400

FSB = 400 (not 1,600)
for 1:1, the mem is clocked at 800 Mhz

800/2 = 400

Therefore 400:400 = 1:1

How about 8x333 @ 1,066 MHz on the RAM:

FSB:DRAM
333 : (1,066/2)
333 : (533)
5:8

If you look back at the guide, I give a few others, but that's basically it. You can setup a spreadsheet to calculate these if you want and simply format the cells to fractions so it'll get reduced for you. BTW, that's for DDR2. It's a factor of 4 for DDR3, also explained in the guide.

graysky,I dunno how to post a screenshots in forum:eek:.Anyway, thanks for the reply and helps. My NB(x38) temp around 48-50c,is it a acceptable temp?I think the temp reading (TMPIN1)in HWMonitor should be NB.

WOW, thank you graysky for this awesome post. I've got at q6600 on a ep35-ds3r running at 3.0ghz. I've never done OC before and with your guide by my side I think I've got a good, stable, temp. acceptable OC. I still don't understand many parts of the guide (maybe I'm stupid?) but the basic overall concepts helped me to get going. Thank you thank you thank you.

on a side note, I've searched and found you can press ctrl + f1 on gigabyte boards for advanced OC features. I've pressed that button repeatedly in bios and still cannot find these extra features in OC. So basically I just stuck with the FSB, cpu multiplier, Vcore, and ram speed thing AND NOTHING ELSE. Oh well.......

@danielhcn - 48-50 is normal for x38 (they run on the warm side) depending on your FSB and NB Vcore. Yeah, that tmpin1 is probably your nb temp.

@isaaclim - Glad you found it useful... what parts don't you understand? Also, you should post your question about unlocking hidden BIOS features on a Gigabyte board to figure it out... why they would make anything "hidden" in a BIOS is beyond me!

graysky, what so good and advantages abt Xeon cpu x3360 and DFI mobo that u have currently? How abt 790i ultra mb?
Base on ur experience, how long need to run prime95 to get better stability?

Isaaclim,i dodn't thk GA mb or all others mb need to press ctrl+f1 to get to advanced OC features, maybe u need to check on ur GA manual. For my mb bios, all the OC features was in so call M.I.T?For my case,if i set Cpu Vcore to 1.3250v and all those nb,fsb Vcore to auto .I can't even pass on prime95 for 1 hr.

@danielhcn - I've never used a modern nvidia board like a 790i based system, so I can't answer that. I'm not sure what advantages my system gives over any other... what specifically are you interested in knowing? DFI makes great boards in general. I will never buy another company's product after owning this board which is rock solid and very intelligently laid-out. It beat the sh*t out of my older Asus P5B-Del which had several problems with the BIOS and drivers under xp x64.

How long for stability? I'd say a good 22-24 h.

graysky: My lack of understanding was not from the quality of your written piece. Its actually written in a clear, concise manner. You had prefaced it in your guide, but its really the different terminology. My gigabyte mobo does seem to have different words floating around so its just homework on my part. But I may just skip on it since I've got a nice stable OC as is :)

danielhcn: Well I've read from others posts and even in my mobo manual that ctrl + f1 will unlock stuff. Maybe I did and I just didn't notice. But you're right, the MIT part of it had all I needed for some basic tweaking. Got my q6600 at 3.0ghz. Only had prime95 on for an hour w/ no errors, but that was good enough for me. I'm going to test with more games/programs.

graysky, seem like DFI got a lots OC tweaker features, does it mean more tweaker features to adjust than we can reduce the cpu vcore?I really dun hav any complained on my mb,the only complaining was the board really cramp(like all the components squeezed inside a tiny hole:) compare to the board u owned.I juz need a more spaces, stable, fast gd for OC board. How abt the DFI x38,any comments on this mb?
I got one problem right now.I was unable to run memtest86+.when i boot from cd,then the sys was loading and hanged there. Is it correct that i use nero to burn image memtest86+ iso image to blank disc? And i try the floopy bootable, but wins not allowed to copy to my floopy disc.i oso dunno wat happening:confused:.Pls help...........
Another one more questions(lol, seem like i got plenty of problem).i try oc to 3.2(9x356fsb) but i try vcore1.3625v still failed on prime95(>1hr).should i increased somemore the vcore?but the core temp was high(<60c but >65c).my setting....Fsb =+0.35v,nb =+0.175v,vcore =1.3625v.my previous 3.0Ghz(9x333) settings.........fsb=+.35v,nb =0.075v,vcore =1.3000v.Can u see anything wrong with my setting on 3.2g(9x356) there?
The 3.0Ghz(9x333) running 24hrs prime95 without error and thks for the OC guide:sun:

Right, more features that can affect stability beyond cpu vcc. They are also very stable platforms in general whereas some other boards aren't. I dunno about any of the x38 based boards first hand, but I've read good things about them.

I dunno what you're doing wrong. If you downloaded the bootable ISO, you burnt it to CD, and you have your BIOS set up to allow you to boot from a CD, it should just work.

As to your o/c question, yeah, you'll need to consider the other vcores as described in the guide. You're vcores... that +0.35V doesn't mean much to me since I dunno what your base level is... in other words 0.35V + what? What are the final vcores? What about your VTT?

My Vtt(fsb) max is +0.35v(0.05-0.35),Nb Vcore max is 0.775(if i'm not wrong).I only can do 5 setting on my voltage features. The Dram voltage and Pci voltage i set to auto.I thk my ram voltage can go 1.8v only so i didn't change and Pci voltage i didn't set cause normally set to auto, right?
Dram voltage not enough also can cause unstability? For example, the dram voltage If i can set to +.30v(if my dram voltage is 2.1v),but i set to Auto.is it ok?

What does your RAM manufacture recommend for voltage? Ballistix are 2.1 or 2.2 I believe. You should start at the recommended value. As to our other vcores, again, I need to know what the baseline voltage is because the +0.x volts is meaningless without that. For example, keep your NB vcore under 1.65V. I have no idea what +0.775 is in terms of final voltage delivered.

My dram recommended voltage=1.8v.Regarding the FSB & NB baseline voltage,i still waiting for Gigabyte to reply.
Why must we get 1:1 on FSB:Dram ratio?what's the impact if we didn't get 1:1?:confused:Seem like 3.2Ghz running too hot to me,i thk i will stick to 3.0Ghz.Maybe my cpu cooler not that good.

Brand new quad build currently up and going, but I have just a few questions, if I may. Specs as follows:

Q6700 retail - 1.3250v
eVGA 750FTW SLI - SZ1E BIOS (newest avail.)
OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2-800 4gb kit
Zerotherm Nirvana NV120 HSF
Antec P182

OK, so I have not touched a THING for voltages, just turned off C1E and a few other items in the BIOS, and went straight for 1333fsb (up from stock of 1067). That netted me a nice 3.33ghz OC, with temps at idle of: Core 0 - 43c, 1,2 and 3 are from 41-39 idle. But my RAM is listed by CPU-Z as 5:6 ratio with default 5-5-5-18 clocks. And therein lies my question .. I admit, I HATE math and I can't make sense of the formula to try and get a 1:1 ratio with possible tighter timings. But what would I need to get to 1:1 ?? Any chance I could try running at 1T as well ??
TIA guys .. this has been a busy day upgrading from a dual core build to quad without any changes (other than reactivating Vista) to my current OS.
