Thank goodness we have Walton and Johnson in Houston. They're at least relevant and funny.

I never found him that funny. His show is tedious and boring to me.

To me, he tries to have it both ways, hiding behind some sort of "ironic remove" to act stupid while wanting you to know he's really not that stupid, so his acting stupid is his clever societal comment on those who act stupid . . .

And all I hear is the "stupid."

He is, however, one of the cleverest and most successful self-promoters ever, ranking right up there with Madonna and Hugo Chavez. ;)

PS The funniest thing is that in the late '80's - early '90's I was the sole guy in a group of friends who were left activists/writers who wasn't a huge Stern fan.

Go figure.

The Jackie Puppet routine that Billy West did use to crack me up every time, especially when it would get under the skin of Jackie.

Richard and Sal get annoying with the gay act bullshit, in fact they could lose Sal and the show would be better.
Agree with all that.

I don't like Artie, besides being irritatingly unfunny, I got sick of him sitting there every morning and kissing Stern's ass like the fan that he is. He's what chased me away from regularly listening to the radio show for several hours a day, several years back. When I realized that I was subconciously anticipating the exact moment he would interrupt Stern in conversation and stomp all over his train of thought with some pathetic impression or unfunny joke or kiss-ass statement, I said WTF am I listening to this.

I initially disliked Artie, and it took me about a year to embrace him (and for him to calm down to the point of being a useful contributor). Now I really think he adds a lot, and the drama of his life is interesting. I'm afraid he may not live much longer, though.

I thought people just watch that show to look at the hot chicks riding the Sybian.

Isn't that pretty much the only reason to watch the show?

Not with his fuckin terrible boner-killing voice constantly breaking in.

I started listening to Stern during some dark days of depression in my late teens, and I have laughed thousands of times since then, thanks to his show. I grew up loving the humor of the Marx Brothers, Monty Python, classic SNL sketches, Carol Burnett and Johny Carson (started staying up to watch his show around 4th grade), and Stern was a natural progression for me. I never found much appeal in the stripper interviews, etc. - but those are not the bulk of the show by any means, neither is macho bravado and debasement of women or minorities. Stern has said some stuff that disappointed me (he's also grown a lot in the last 12 years that I've been listening), but I'm not looking for him to be a father figure, I just know I can count on his show to entertain me on a regular basis, and I will always be grateful for it.

I can absolutely, without a doubt, confess that I LOVE the Howard Stern show. Morning radio sucked around here until he came to Sirius and I haven't been happier.

I usually listen for 1-3 hours a day (mix of morning live and afternoon replays) and even online at night.

I find Howard and the crew to be very entertaining, talk about relevant and interesting topics, and just help me enjoy my day. My wife even is hooked now as well, its great.

Howard Stern ROCKS! :)

I haven't listened to him more than once since he went to satellite.
While I enjoy talk radio shows, I refuse to pay for them. That is part of the allure of radio, it's free and it's whereever you are.

I've been an AM talk radio junkie for years. My favorite show is Stephanie Miller, their crew is absolutely the funniest.

AM and FM stations don't follow me around. Sirius does.

Fixed.

W&J started in 83, Stern started his shock jock routine in 84. Who copied who?

Negative. Howard was a professional broadcaster in the late 70s, and was well known in radio as early as 1981, when he was #1 in Washington DC. By 1982, he had moved to the largest market in the US, working for WNBC, and he sure as hell wasn't paying attention to some wannabe AM radio scrubs broadcasting in Louisiana. I sincerely doubt even "Walton and Johnson" would claim they influenced Howard.
