If it was a black bear I would stab it in the eye. You would get a bunch of damage done to you by the time you can stab it in the eye (use your left arm as something for it to go after), but then you'd have a chance to get away even if you lose an arm... if you try to run it would just jump on your back and maul you. Go for the eyes and then it would ah heck off. BTW a black bear wandered in town within a year so I've thought about it a few times 
my cousin actually had an encounter with a bear last summer, he was up in PA hunting at a camp my grand father belongs to, he did not have his gun with him, just a wrench or something i believe. He ended up getting inbetween a mother, and its 2 cubs, not a good idea. He basically said he stood as tall as he could, spread his arms up, and walked backwards away from the bear. The bear followed him for a while, but then gave up. He never turned his back on it, as the bear could have made a sudden move and he would have had time to realize it. I guess he got lucky. he was also yelling as loud as he could to tell his father to watch out, but i guess his father never heard him as he was on the other side of the hill. No one got hurt, but my cousin got damn lucky.

Who was that Rock star that got treed by a bear, anyone remember?
He was out in the woods and a bear chased him up a tree, he climbed WAY WAY up and then realized that the bears cub was in the tree as well. ABOVE him! The cub couldn't get down, and the mother wouldn't give up. The tree was too spindly to support the weight of the mother bear though, hence it couldn't get high enough to get to him. He stayed up there for over a day as I recall, until a ranger finally came along and chased the mother bear away!
Anyone remember hearing this story?

Nope, the junior campers one is from the 4th or 5th season. They go on a rafting trip and of course Flanders and Homer (and Todd and Bart) are in the same raft; Ernest Borgenine is a "celebrity dad" for one of the campers, and Homer steals his pocketknife. At some point Homer's raft gets separated from the group and towards the end he presents Borgnine's knife to Bart, it then cuts to Borgnine fighting a bear (Don't worry kids, I'll fight him with my trusty pocketkn... *searches pockets*... uh.... ohhh...).
