Correction, you can let it go. How do you know there are no aliens? The same way you knew that we wouldn't encounter them in our lifetimes? Or are you a demigod now and you know everything? But since you seem so certain that aliens don't exist, why don't you prove it? No? Then shut the hell up and go somewhere else.

imhotepmp, I think you missed the point of my first post. So I'll try again. Human beings of 5,000 years ago are exactly the same as a human being today. Same physical abilities, same intelligence. But civilizations today have vastly superior technology than the human beings of 5,000 years ago. We have superior technology, and yet we are also of the same intelligence of people from 5,000 years ago. So, it follows that intelligence is a poor measure of technological levels.

What determines how much technology a society has is not necessarily the average intelligence of the society, but how long the society has dedicated itself to science and research. So, it could very well be the case that aliens that are technologically superior to us are equally intelligent, or somewhat less intelligent than human beings, and simply dedicated themselves to science and research longer than humans have.

I think am starting to see what you might also be trying to say. If by intellectually superior you mean having a greater knowledge of science and technology, with no reference to individual intelligence, then I agree. It would almost certainly be the case that any aliens that could successfully travel to earth, would have superior sciences, research, educational facilities, and knowledge bases when compared to our current technological state.

so far we haven't discovered anything
maybe it is lost forever
no one will ever know
maybe we destroyed it a long time ago because it
was threatening to life itself
im making alot of hypothesis
it could be wrong so i dont know
shaking my head it like trying to remember something billion of year
ago, it near impossible
looking at fossile don't tell us much
let say we never seen a monkey
we look at the fossil we think it us because of so like
structure
since we are related to animal on earth we know we couldn't come
from another planet or so to speak off
and there is too many races as well as there are
varieties of dogs, the animal kingdom that is are all
group according from us being on the toppest for having
being most developed creature on this planet
funny how the scientist are working their a** off
while the priest in churches is just a laid back fellow
not having to do any researches whatsoever and goes according to
whatever the book say I can see why there so many believer these
day cause you dont have to do anything much you can sleep on it
24hrs a day believing you are right no matter what
dreaming about the future and making it happen is two different thing
sorry preaching and praying does nothing. :(:(:(:(:(
do you guy remember the incident where these old freak got
a dozen of family dead because he got them to follow him
saying this world is full of pain and he will take them to another world where everyone is happy blah blah blah... crazy man.

Chad why don't you GET OVER IT. There is NO god! The only time you'll ever be able to prove it is after you're dead, what good will it be to you then, since you're wrong.

To sit there and say what you have said is probably one of the least intelligent remarks made in this thread, which explains why you need a religion.

Actually, I'd say it's the other way around.
Ranting, "There is no God! I can't see Him, so he must not exist!" is as ridiculous as "I can't see air so I must live in a vaccuum!"

There's far more evidence to support the fact that we were created then there is to support that we crawled out of a primordial soup zillions of years ago. Here's a couple fun facts: If humans have been around as long as they have, why has noone found "the missing link" or better yet, where are all the human remains? If we've been around billions (or even millions) of years, you should dig up human bones with every shovel of dirt- there'd be that many!
Another fun fact, our sun has been crudely studied and determined to only live so long- if it's already been going for billions of years, it would have long been extinguished. Closer to home, our naturally radioactive isotopes have natural half-lives that wil eventually dwindle to nothing. Again, if the earth is zillions of years old, it would have had to be so radioactive nothing could live, or those isotopes would have LONG since lost any radioactivity...
This is only a handful.
Now I like to fancy myself as a scientific guy, and won't believe something unless there's good, strong evidence for it. I'll say it again, there's far better evidence to support God's creation (let alone a personal miracle) then the hokey make-belive world of evolution. Speaking of which, evoltion has been proven to be fraudulent... "Lucy" was nothing more than a monkey, and many ofthe "steps" were based on one tiny fossil, such as the one based on a pig's tooth. How do you get an entre skeleton from one tooth? Great science there! :) There's also six steps to evolution, only the last one has been observed. If you can take five totally wacky steps of evolving from goo (another impossibility considering our incredibly diverse DNA) then how hard is it to believe in the bible and its proven references? There hasn't been one prediction there that hasn't happened.... that's better than any astrologer has ever done. :p
That's enough for now.... :)

Oh give me a freaking break. Why the heck do you have to turn this into a religious debate? Point is, there is no evidence of any life on any other planet that we have encountered. None! Of course there are millions and millions of other planets and systems in the universe but that alone does not prove anything. Therefore, take off your hypocritical blinders there for a second all right? Both a belief in God and a belief in "aliens" require faith in something that can not be seen.

I know you weren't directing your coment at me... I couldn't help it. People who just cross their arms and say, "This is what it is!" and refuse to listen to anything or anyone else, just bug me. :)
If you can't take in and analyze evidince, you shouldn't have to right to convince others your opinion is correct.

"Prorcupines make great additions to the petting zoo."
"Are you sure about that?"
"I'm sure because I'm right!"
"Why? How do you support your opinion?"
"Because I SAID SO!!!"

Actually, if I'm wrong, no Love lost, you had a nice life, and so did I. But if your wrong...

I'll say it again... THERE ARE NO ALIENS. But even if there were... YOU WOULDN'T EVER SEE THEM IN YOUR LIFETIME! Fact. Just think about it. Long and hard.

Here's some thoughts for you to ponder. Ever wonder, if that there isn't a God, why does everything have a rhyme and reason to it? For example... why do all mammals have penis's and female's vagina's? Or more over... why is there almost always a male and a female? Why, if there was no God and we evolved from a chaotic accident, why isn't everything different?

Dude, non-belief in God is just not logical rational thinking. I could only theorize you've never really pondered such things deeply, because if you had done so seriously, you would almost certainly believe in God.

Lets get real boys.

I swear, religious people are the biggest freaking hyprocrites on this planet. So many things said by you guys are so freaking wrong in so many goddamn ways that I'm not even going to bother refuting all of your guys steaming bs. Not to mention I'll lose brain cells arguing with all you retards. Just do the rest of us a favor and leave us alone to what was a previously a nice dicussion.

I don't know about aliens, probably there are none but I do believe in "beings" that look like humans but are not human. At least not anymore. Even if there were aliens it would not really affect me that much to answer the original question.

Only a man with piss poor debating skills has to result in calling someone a "retard" It's cool Chad's in tune with his beliefs on the whole creationism vs. evolution thing, but he hardly speaks for all of us "freaking hypocrites" in the world.

The addition of the word "some" before "religious" would make a huge difference in preventing this from degenerating into a flame war.

Chad:

I am a Christian. (Does that make me "the biggest freaking hypocrit on the planet?) Yet I see no point in you making absolutist, unverifiable statements in response to the question of this thread. The question is intrinsically hypothetical, as are all of the answers. Can't it just be treated that way?

Back to the question: If I came face to face with alien intelligence I believe that I would seek to understand it. Understanding begins with discerning character and intent. That is where I would begin.

Ok yeah, a not insignificant amount of religious people are hyprocrites. And they are almost always the most visible ones on a day to day basis. My apologies to you Athanasius, you seem to have a good spirit. People like Chad give me a generally poor impression of christians, as stubborn, meddling and closed minded people, whereas christians like you and my sister help me realize that I shouldn't let the others cloud my overall judgement.

Only a man with piss poor debating skills has to result in calling someone a "retard"

I'm not calling someone a retard because I have poor debating skills. I'm calling someone a retard because in fact, they are.

me: so do you believe that jesus christ is your lord and savior?
alien: who?
me: yeah, thought so you hell-bound alien.

First, I'd like to point out that SETI is just looking for radio signals from outer space. Finding them would mean that there are aliens out there, but won't mean that we'll meet them, or tell us anything about their current development level (since they're likely to be many years old).

Secondly, about having not found intelligent life on any planet: we know of only a few tens of planets, most of which are larger than the largest gas giants in our solar system. The gas giants in our solar system don't have intelligent life (unless it's hiding really well :), and there's no reason to assume that those elsewhere would. We can't even really see those planets, but only know of them in a roundabout manner. Concluding from this that there isn't intelligent alien life anywhere is a real stretch of logic.

I do think that it's highly unlikely that we'll meet an alien race, or even find evidence of one any time soon. How easy would it be for someone as advanced as the human race to locate Earth and detect intelligent life on it from many light years away? I think that it would be quite difficult. We still have no reason to believe that it's possible to build ships capable of faster than light travel, and without them even a highly developed race would be limited to a relatively small space. Even if that race wants others to find it, it could have a hard time broadcasting its presence, and even if it does find another race, the chance that this race would be the human race seems very small.

I guess I knew a religous argument would start, but my intention was to point out how stupid it is to tell someone thier opinion is wrong the way you did chad.

YOU WON'T EVER SEE GOD IN YOUR LIFETIME EITHER! Fact. :p

almost everything around you is now in existance because someone didn't listen to the people like YOU who told them to just give up, that'll never work...... it is idiodic to say that someone's opinion is wrong when their is no totally conclusive proof to support any theory.

your post is so full of stupid comments I can't stop laughing, I also can't decide which ones even worth dealing with as it would be a waste of time to discuss anything with someone as close minded as you.

sidenote: it was not my intention to offend anyone who holds religous beliefs, I just needed something to make my point.

The fact that a discussion about Aliens turned into a religious debate speaks volumes about human nature. Could it be that finding out that we are not really God's chosen is just too much for a religious hypocrite to bear? :p

Fact: the religious debate was not started by anyone in here claiming to be religious. If you make a slam at religion, expect religious people to defend themselves. That's not an in depth study of human nature just pure common sense.

I'm not coming off to defend Chad, BUT please show how he's a hypocrite? Huh? Well you can't.

Now, all Chad has done is state his opinion. Whether I agree with him or not makes no difference. But unless you know the guy you have no place to make such judgements.

Look, if you don't already see atleast SOME inconsistency in Chad's arguments, then I won't bother to explain it to you. I'm not going to try to explain or convince you because you already had your mind made up before I could type up a good reply. So I'd simply be wasting time and energy. Others in this thread have already shown the double standards in his belief system so I won't bother repeating what was already stated. You merely have to READ the thread to see what I mean.
