Try adding another stick of ram.

Yea, my 9800 pro 128MB and athlon 64 2800 with 1.5GB of ram runs doom 3 at 1024X768 at ultra settings with 16XAF and runs a very good 50-60 fps, and VERY RARELY(happend once in the whole game) did it go below 40. Get some ram to run doom 3 better.

To the OP, yes your x800pro will run hl2 fine, remember all them videos they showcased hl2 on? That was on a 9800 pro, and your card is almost twice as fast.

HL2 is not going to run as well as CS:S. It will be a lot more detailed.

I think I will get another 512mb ram this weekend and see what difference it makes on Doom3

No, you will need a MUCH faster video card than the X800pro to be able to play HL2.

=/...

Of course it'll be fine! If the top of the line video cards start to be not enough to play new games, then there would be something seriously wrong with the industry.

I play cs:source at 1600x1200 all high, reflect world 4xaa and 8xaf on the rig listed below and get about 70fps, 40 or so in busy scenes. I'm sure your x800pro will play hl2 just fine. Run the cs:source stress test with the video settings at what you want to play hl2 at. That will give you a fairly accurate indication of how your system will perform in hl2.

How about a Radeon X800SE 128 mb card in a 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 machine with 1 Gb memory? :D

Seriously, I haven't seen any benchmarks for this card and I've never ran them myself.

Depends on what settings are you gonna choose, my guess is since the 9800 Pro plays the game fast at 1280x1024 your card will run it aswell at this res with some AA/AF and it *might* run it at 1600x1200 no AA/AF.

See previous statement. Check the Anand reviews - the X800 Pro is about 5% slower than the 6800GT in everything except Doom3 (and a couple of OpenGL games that run at >80 fps anyways).
Doom3 is a special case. It runs much better on Nvidia next-gen hardware (so much so that the 6800nu beats the X800 Pro badly, while the opposite is true in every other game at high resolutions with AA/AF).

You mean the X800 Pro is generally faster than the GT except in Doom 3? Well, I don't agree with that, the GT beats the Pro in most of the games except in FarCry and some other specific titles, so it's like 80% wins for the GT and 20% for the Pro.

Reread my post and what you highlighted - I said the X800 Pro is a good margin faster than the 6800nu (the 6800 plain) in every game but Doom 3.

I also said above that that the Pro is generally a bit slower than the GT in everything.
