How was 2017?

2017 sucked for me. My cat died, my grandfather died, and my wife was sick and needed to be in a rehab facility for a month.

I got a less stressful and higher paying job, though, so that's a plus.

Depends on quite a few things but I often see a few stay on to manage the new cloud infrastructure. I've also seen places who completely priced 'going to the cloud' wrong. Everyone thinks its automatically cheaper but it can often replace CapEx costs with higher Operational costs once you actually get your environment setup right (I've also seen a few places that are ok with this because they are stupidly obsessed on CapEx and don't care that the overall cost is likely more over 3-5 years).

Depends on what they mean by "going to the cloud". If you're just moving your servers from a local server room to AWS, you're still going to need someone to manage those servers remotely.

Now, if you're replacing your entire payroll department with something like Paylocity... that's a different story. You'll probably going to lose some people in that case.

2017...8 months of the wife suffering with no diagnosis. High eye pressure/pain/laser surgery, 4 episodes of skin rashes that we attributed to shingles, 2 separate week stays for Bells Palsy, both sides of her face. "What?"......sarcoidosis.

We now have a name. Now we, me, family, Drs, family, friends, ...are looking for any information that we can get.

RSW

That was like me with SIBO. Constant pain & fatigue growing up. Going into my second year now on a magic pill that lets me function normally most of the time, without feeling like I swallowed a bag of knives. My GP had never even heard of it before. Getting the right diagnosis was huge for me. tbh, it was one of the main reasons I got into IT in the first place...never had any energy, just constantly drained - sitting at a computer was doable.

2017 was busy. Sold condo in Florida. Sold home in Michigan. Had new home built in Florida. Rented condo in Florida waiting for new home to be done. It made no financial sense to move our belongings and then store them so we sold, gave away and/or threw out nearly everything we had accumulated over our lifetimes, bringing down only what we could fit in both cars. Bought all new furniture. Somewhere in the middle of that Irma pretty much went over the top of our new house 10 days after we closed on it.

Busy

Don't forget Irma, 3 days after you closed.
