A lot of people don't have cable. I get my 99% of what I want from Netflix and Hulu. The only thing I'm missing is live sports and live news, both of which I can live without to save $600+ a year.
Fox is an OTA network--- you don't need cable. How do you get weather warnings, local news, etc?
FOX is local channel, rabbit ears are enough. I can't even imagine where you have to be in US to not even have local national channels.

I simply look outside my window and dress appropriately.Fox is an OTA network--- you don't need cable. How do you get weather warnings, local news, etc?

Local news is available on Yahoo, along with reading local newspapers, going to the local TV station's website, or browsing Anandtech.
I see little reason to listen to talking bubble heads on TV.
I only pay for cable TV because other family members want it.

The only channel we can get is NBC, and that comes and goes. We went to Pittsburgh for the weekend to watch the game (unfortunately)...if it weren't for that, a local bar would have been the only option. Still, it's better than paying $600 or more a year...
I look forward to the day that all TV is available online, but until then, I generally just do without.
The only news I regularly listened to on Cable was C-Span's "Washington Journal". They go through all the major newspaper headlines from Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and others etc...I used to keep my cable solely for having the live news channels. I would run the news while I got ready in the morning to keep up with current events. Starting about 1-2 years ago, they stopped reporting actual news, so I got rid of my cable.
