I agree. I also agree with the noob, ereet1. This was a waste of money, but worth a try.

Wish I could get these to fit into my Uni-ball Signo.... they aren't as cheap as the G2's look and feel.
I did the mod, and tried putting the G2 Pro's cartridge in my Signo RT. Only problem is the hole will have to be enlarged, which is simple, but why bother? The Signo is finer, which is what I prefer. My wife says it feels "scratchy", but it suits me.

You're still talking $5-$6 bucks for each Mont Blanc refill vs. $2 for a whole brand new G2 pen (and if they sell G2 refills, how much can they be, around a buck or so?)

Informal poll, how many people who have used a MB rolllerball pen think the writing quality is worth an extra $4-$5 over other rollerballs?

I don't understand why this is such a big deal. You aren't getting a $200 pen for $5.
Mont Blanc pens are not about how well they write, it's the fact that they're covered in gold, silver, etc and look very nice. It's all about looks, not how well it writes.

If I wanted a pen that just writes well, I like the Fisher space pens. I have one that still works great after about 10 years (I don't use it often, but it's still very smooth just like new).

I thought that was made clear in the OP...

...why yes, yes it was!

And yes, I know there are more reasons than just the ink cartridge that people own Mont Blanc pens...

Silly me, I DID expect the ink to be of somewhat higher quality, even if only a little. I'm disappointed their ink seems no better than the Pilot's ink, and their "fine" point is not as fine as Sanford's Micro RT, which is still my favorite at this point.

So I dropped by the local Office Depot today and happened to walk by the clearance section. Lo and behold, I found 2 packages of 2 Mont Blanc rollerball refills for get this... $0.10 each!!! Now that is a hot deal. I encourage anyone to peruse the Clearance section in the back and you may just find gold!

Errr...go to Home Depot and compare the cartridge in an Extra Fine G2 to the cartridge in a Fine G2

[Edit] Then go to Office Depot and try the same experiment (Dang, I got to get to bed :))

In for two. I actually did find the MB to be a bit better for writing. If you don't write much, it's probably not worth it. However, if you do a lot of writing, I'd say it's at least a warm deal.

Yeah, it worked.

I noticed a small difference, but the cartridge is already dying out on my after about 2 days of writing [About 20 pages front and back college ruled lined paper.]

We'll see. It's a tad smoother and the ink is more.. pure? aha.

I tried this and it was really easy to do. The refil trims down without a problem (I used a box cutter).

Not really. After using the Mont Blanc ink for a few days, I went back to using the G2 and a G6 - the ink and rollerball mechanism is horrible. The ink constantly bleeds uncontrollably and randomly decides to dry out leaving blank spots in your writing. True, the Mont Blanc is smoother, but more important, its writing is reliable and consistent.

You can also do this, with a little more modification, to the Pentel EnerGel.

Only additional mod is you have to enlarge the hole about 1/32"

I'm using one right now to write this post on my tablet.

The ink is so good, it won't even come off my screen.

This is a GREAT deal!

I've got a Pilot Dr.Grip Gel that takes the same refills as the G2...I might try this later cause the G2 ink is really not that smooth at all

Agreed. I did a blind test with 10 people in the office and everyone chose the G2 ink. And no the people were not blindfolded they just didnt know what the ink was in what pen.

I did that, but I think the gel ink itself is better than the montblanc ink and the gel ink is much much cheaper.

well as a user of fountain pens i do prefer the style in which the mt. b. writes... very smooth flows very nice. you have to write with a constant motion to have it work most effectively. If you are used to using ordinary pens just stick with them since the style necessary to write with them is obviously very different. Those looking for more try it out!!

As a major pen affectionado that regularly collects high end pens...I gotta say you people are getting worked up over nothing. Buy yourself a Cross and Parker ballpoint refill along with the Montblac refill, write with them side by side, and see if you can even tell the difference. If you're an average pen user that doesn't really care about pens all that much, it's not likely you'll feel any difference. If you pay more than $5 for any BP you're paying for just a pretty shell, they all use the same cartridges in the end. And particularly with ballpoints, at some point they all end up writing and looking the same. Which is why I generally refuse to use a ballpoint whenever I can avoid it. A rollerball leaves a slightly more interesting and vivid line at least, and a fountain pen actually writes a line that is completely unique to the very one you're writing with.

If you want a smooth ballpoint, there's only one bad boy around town for that...the Sanford Jetstream 1.0mm. Absolutely no other brand name ballpoint even comes close to it for smoothness. It's so smooth that it's even difficult to control at times.

Doesn't the Mont Blanc come in rollerball though?

That's the one I used...
