How to use Cologne

Can ATOT save an incompetent nub like me? I'm trying to start using cologne but don't know how. Google failed me. So far I've heard two methods:

1. Spray it in the air and walk into it. Apparently, this prevents it actually mixing with your body oils?

2. Spray on wrists, rub them against each other and then rub on neck.

Whats the best way??

IF I use cologne, I'll use what I've used for a very long time, a quick single spray at the base of my neck/upper chest.

Yea, that's definitely a female technique. I don't think I've ever had any that came in a spray bottle. On the rare occasions I use cologne, I put a very small amount on my chest only, nowhere else.
