I'm sure there are some cases, though is it really worth the risk of screwing up the card? I mean, if you are highly into modding and such, then go for it. I don't think I would, however.

What does it mean when someone says "I was able to unlock the pipes but the shaders wouldn't unlock." In reality, anything can be unlocked. Do they simply mean that they were not able to unlock them *without artifacts*?

Right. But who wants artifacts?

Did you read how to actually do the .bat method? In order for it to "show up" you need to execute it in the command prompt. See what Windows has done to people? :)

Anyway, if that doesn't work, I wouldn't recommend anything else. Your pipes are probably just broken.

Exactly, don't get upset over the fact that your's doesn't flash..

People like this kinda annoy me, TBH. And some other stuff..

Sorry to bump an old thread.. but I couldnt find an answer..

I've been using my BFG 6800 OC 128mb AGP card with 16, 6 for about 1.5 years and have been happy with it. I found out there is a way to mod the bios of the video card and reflash it with different settings. Safest way should be to alter current bios and flash it back. Because of the timing difference they have for different cards..

I see its quite easy to change stock clock speeds and voltage, but there were no options to change the pipes and vertex shader. But it did have hex modding (which im sure has that..) . Is this just not possible?

RivaTuner should be able to keep the pipes open if you flash the BIOS.

However, I'm not familiar with any modded BIOS's. The default should have you at 00003d0d. 16x1, 6vp is 00003f0f. Any options for those?

I have the same problem. I've been using my rivatuner modded 6800 for over 6 months now and want to permanently save the rivatuner settings to the bios. The really tragic thing is that I spent about a whole day 6 months ago finding out how to do this and I found the information somewhere, and now I can't find it again. I usually save info like that. I see where I saved my original bios to a file and made an emergency boot disk that I can use to blind flash the bios back to the original.
With everything I have going on right now I don't have time to dig around the net for a whole day figuring all of this out again, so if anyone has a how-to or a link, please, I'm begging you, help me. Do it for the children. (Oh, and I don't mind hex editing a bios, but I want to be damn sure what I'm doing. I know I can fix any problem with a blind flash, but I want to err on the side of safety if possible).

When I had a card with bad ram, I just used a bios editor Text to permanantly set a different clockspeed for it, shouldn't effect any other settings you have. If it does should be able to redo RT settings while maintaining the edited ones. Probably in all-inone tool for all this I haven't tried, so bump^

Thank you very much for that link, sir. Hopefully sometime this weekend I'll have time to permanently open all 16 pixel pipelines while leaving the bad vertex unit closed. I'll report back with details.

Edit: As of February 11th 2006, I still haven't found the time to flash my bios with the rivatuner settings. Oh well, maybe some day...

Thanks for all the information guys. I have an XFX 6800GS AGP on order and will try to bump it up to 16/6 and 400/1100mhz. A GeForce 6800 Ultra for $220.00 will be nice (it they unlock with no artifacts)

I was just playing around with memory speed on my 6800nu and noticed something strange. The card actually scores higher in benchmarks @ 395/785 than at 395/810. I first bumped the memory down to 800, and gained a few points. Then to 785, gained a few more. Down from there and the scores drop, so it seems 785 is the 'sweet spot'.

Is this unusual? Pipes are not unlocked (didn't work for me :()

Professor1942, nah. If you run 3dmark05 one after the other without changing anything, you'll notice a difference in your score 99.9% of the time. It all has to do with what's running in your background, if your hdd is paging, etc. etc. How drastically different are your scores?

Bump. It's confirmed that this procedure can be followed for the 6800GS series as well.
