Yep, everything looks right in here. Some things on AT never change.

Bringing up facts about how Canadian tourists are perceived is goading others into a flame war? No, I think not accepting facts does :D

God bless the Queen (and nobody else)!
Are you referring to the article with no quantitative data, based on a survey funded by an American company you posted? Truth be told, when I traveled in Europe I didn't have a flag of any kind on my bag and didn't have any problems. I couldn't care less what reputation Canadian tourists (or American ones, for that matter) have.

Anyhow, I'm not going to get drawn into a debate over this, I learned long ago that there's no point in debating anything with the word "Canada" with either you or RabidMongoose. I'll be happy to discuss an electrical engineering-related topic in another thread, though.

I just brought up the study (which means more than just saying "Canadians are nice") to correct what people were saying, brought up my own theory on why Canadians are perceived as rude, and then made a joke. I didn't partake in any flaming. You seemed to try to goad me on into some sort of flame war though :) Relax!

Agreed. Never had a problem with being an American in Europe, even in the summer of 2003 right after we invaded Iraq. I was even in France, didn't sense any anti-American sentiment.

I live in the UK. I have never met an unfriendly American. I have never met an unfriendly Canadian.

Hold open doors for people, and use pleasantries. Show some manners. You're bound to be mistaken for a Canuck!

Funny one of the first things my wife commented on when she moved to Virginia from Montreal is how polite people here were compared to where she was from.

I don't see Montreal as Canadian; it's a part of the nation of Quebec. Everyone there treated all non-Quebecois (?) like ass when I visited. You couldn't pay me enough to go back.

Would it be off topic to point out that I've liked the majority of American tourists I have met, even when I was working at Gatwick Airport.

Next time I go to Europe, I want to act like I'm from Canada so people don't give me flack for being American. How would I go about this?

Why would you do this? Americans are considered to be among the best tourists in the entire world according to travel surveys. Canadians are generally rated as worse tourists in a general sense.

But if you want to act Canadian, just pretend to have an inferiority complex.

link?

CoW posted it earlier and yllus just posted it now. Canadians are not known to be good tourists. I realize that many Canadians only manage to get through their day to day lives and survive their inferiority complex by believing that the rest of the world actually cares about and subsequently likes Canada, but that's just a foolish belief.

It's not that Canadians are bad tourists though.

I guess your attitude makes you the greater of the two evils eh?

What's my attitude?

Oh, my sides hurt from the irony!

Are you 13? Have you travelled abroad? Have you ever left your home state? Man alive.

Montreal is in Quebec, where they are elitist seperatists bastards. If I had it my way we'd send our one tank, our one f-16 and our 52 troops to conquer their French asses.

Seriously. Quebecers are quite rude, an exception to the rule.

I would expect no less from people of French ethnicity, Canadian or not.

Great, instead of continuing to defame an already disgraceful country lets take our American custom of impersonating other, well-liked cultures over to Europe as well and see if we can take Canada down with us. And we wonder why the rest of the world hates us.. Why not just try to be respectful of the country housing you and maybe set a good name for Americans? My two cents.

Why do every times I read somethings on Canada versus USA I always see people Saying rude thing about Quebecers? From what i've read so far you ( people outside Quebec but from Canada ) are the rude ones. You don't see anyone from Quebec saying that about you. Geez..first of all get out of the big towns...you'll almost certain to find rude people in every big town of this world, so don't juge Quebecer solely on the fact that someone has been rude to you in Montreal. Hek...I've been to Toronto and I didn't find you more or less rude than we are.

For me the only factor to be taken is how rich you are...the more money you have and the more rude you tend to act with other people, whatever you are American, Canadian or French. Plz stop falling for the stereotype and go look for yourself. Hek...I go on a french Forum and I see poeple saying english canadian are rude and American a bunch or moron...I go on a english forum and see the exact same thing said about french canadian and the French...

Stop looking at yourself and beliving those stupids stereotypes and go explore the world and find and forge you own opinion...and please don't do it after one encounter with foreing people...the first one migh be a ass and the next 200 the most pleasant people you ever met.

PS:excuse my english but I was too angry after reading some of those comments that I didn't take time to correct my spelling.

I don't know why it happens, actually I have a good idea on why it happens as I too have been rather irritated at timees with Quebec Separatists. That said it is stupid for Anglophones to hate the whole Province for the actions of a minority.

I think the Quebecouis and most of English Canada can agree on something though: Ontario sucks especially its' Dark Heart, Toronto!! ;) :D

Don't pretend to be anything else than what you are. Its the only thing we Europeans hate more than Americans :p

In reality, unless you are wearing a shirt that says "I support Bush/ I support war in Iraq/ some mixture of the previous" you will be just fine. We don't hate the Americans. We hate your politics.
Just try to avoid getting into arguments in the pubs after few beers. If they realize you = american, THEY WILL ASK ABOUT BUSH/IRAQ... better have a good distraction thought, like "Nah, no politics please. How aboot them canucks..." :D

People liked us in Italy...course that was before the war.

Frankly, I don't care. I'm going to speak English. And if you seem like you can't understand, I'm going to speak English louder and more slowly. If that doesn't work, I'll use hand gestures to explain to your French ass that I want more butter for my freaking croisant......and Coca-Cola at 10:00 AM in the morning...in a huge glass...full of ice. I'm gonna ask you were the Mc Donald's is because I freaking like greasy damn American style food as much as I like your girly crepes. And you're gonna like it...cause rude and obnoxious tourists like me are 50% of your economy. I'm not there for you. I'm not there for your stupid old buildings and sites. I'm there so I can come home and condescend to people who haven't been there. Frankly, I'd rather rent Euopean vacation and throw $2,000 down the toilet, but I may need a couple snapshots to prove I was there.
