Note: I do not own a Confederate flag, I even tried to convince people to change the Mississippi flag to one without the Confederate flag in the corner (I was too young at the time to vote to change it). But, I can see why they do it sometimes)
Tired of something that people do in another state that has no impact on your life?
Here are some simple steps on how YOU can eliminate the minority of people in the "Bible Belt" that are still flying their Confederate flags!
[*]Accept that slavery was part of our nation's history, not just the south. By creating a division here, one is perpetuating provincialism.
[*]Accept that you are not better than anyone just because you were born in another area of our country. By creating a division here, one is perpetuating provincialism.
[*]Accept that your culture is not superior to another culture. By creating a division of cultural superiority, one is perpetuating provincialism.
[*]Accept that no southerner alive today owns slaves, nor did their grandparents. Their hands are clean of slavery.
[*]Accept that racial discrimination was (and still is) a national problem and is not confined to the south. By blaming racism on one part of the nation, one is perpetuating provincialism.
[*]Accept that the south has given the lives of countless sons and daughters in the defense of The United States of America. By ignoring this fact, one is perpetuating provincialism.
[*]Accept that just because someone has less money than you, does not mean that they are inferior to you, for example ?trailer trash?
[*]Accept that the stories about incest, shoeless, toothless, and backward hillbillies are just stereotypes. By stereotyping people born in a certain area of the country as being this way is perpetuating provincialism.
[*]Accept that labeling someone as being a "redneck" or an idiot just because of the state in which that person was born makes about as much sense as labeling someone inferior just because that person is black.
Stop creating stereotypes and labeling people based on where they were born and provincialism will diminish (along with the symbol of provincialism).
