How to stop a boile from growing

Red Squirrel

This may sound crazy/gross, but a few years back I had a boile on my butt. It was the most painful thing I have ever gone through. At first it just felt like a bruise so I shrugged it off figuring I must of fell on it or something, but could not recall ever falling there so thought it was odd. Then I realized something was up so I went to the clinic where they gave me antibiotics, which did not do anything, then I went to the ER for surgery. For the next 2 weeks I had to go back every 2 days as they had to put packing inside the hole so it heals properly after surgery. You could easily fit a golf ball in there.

Well think I may be getting one again. These are caused by ingrown hairs. Is there anything I can do before it gets bad, or should I just go straight to the ER asap? I want to avoid having to go through that process if it's possible as the aftermath of the surgery is very long and painful, and inconvenient. (cannot take shower or get it wet).

Well I suppose you could try plucking the ingrown hair if you can see/reach (requires cutting a thin layer of skin). Otherwise I'd take it to a doctor and nip it in the bud this time.

I would have to agree with IrishScott on this. Something like this happened to my cousin about 8 years ago and he had to get the boil lanced and packed and all that. Knowing I got a hairy butt, it always gives me the shivers to think I would have to deal with that at some point in the future...

I went to see a doctor at the local clilnic, they prescribed me some meds (have no clue what it is - can't read that hand writing - don't know how pharmacists even read that) and they'll be ready in an hour. They said to soak it in a salt bath as well. They made an appointment to go see a surgeon.

So looks like I'll have to go through the same as last time. What a pain in the ass. Pun intended.

Oh man, reminds me of another forum where some guy posted :camera:s of the pilondial cyst that he had growing in his ass-crack. I think there was a piece of lint fluttering in the breeze, too.

So, you're not going to disappoint, right?

:camera:s!

perhaps you need to rethink your nut-storage locations? 🙂

Do you have a pilonidal cyst?

I had one over the summer. What you are describing sounds very similar. I went to the ER and right away they cut it and drained it. I had to go back every 2 days for about 2 weeks so they could change the packing.

It really is one of the most painful things I've ever felt, especially since I was doing landscaping for the summer. Driving from place to place in the trucks, and sometimes in a 30 year old semi.

How old are you? If it is a pilonidal cyst, people usually stop having them come back when they reach around 40.

Shudder..

Where do these things come from? Any good way of preventing this? wear clean underwear perhaps?
