How to setup dynamic DNS with a real domain?

My goal:

To run my domain at home on a Windows 2000 Server (it is setup) with a dynamic IP on DSL. (For experiments)

My setup:

-Dynamic IP on a PPPoE DSL line.
-Win2K Server
-Domain name registered (hosted at an ISP currently, where I do work)
-Netgear RT314 w/ PC's on 192.168.0.0 network.

Ok, so I know you can run zonedit, dns2go, dyndns.org, etc. to have a "whatevername.dyndns.org". Now do any of these allow the capabiltiy to run a www.domain.com of a dynamic IP server? If not, what would I need to do so?

Addtionally, if this was all possible, then what ports would I need to forward for:

-Exchange 2000 (w/ OWA, and any other standard ports it uses).
-All the DNS activity.
-Win2K built-in VPN (IIRC, it has built-in VPN server stuff?).

I realize my setup is circumstance is not ideal, however, your assistance in reaching my goal would be greatly appreciated. 😀

Thanks!

Actually, with zoneedit.com, you use a real domain name (top level domain name), not a subdomain. I don't think zoneedit.com offers a subdomain option.

I've used zoneedit.com with dynamic dns and a real domain name using the directupdate.net update utility.

Thanks for the info, just one question: Is the service you are referring to free, and if so, which service is it listed on the website?

Oh and I need a secondary peice of software to have it fully function?

Poontos, I'm wondering if it's free as well. From the looks of the site, it is free. The WebDomain forwarding thing is cool (forwards the www.___.com to your own site). If the www.___.com registration thing is free (getting your own top level domain), then damn this service rocks!

zoneedit.com has a free dynamic dyns service. To use this service, you have to use the 3rd party utility by a variety of people, but for windows, you can use the one by directupdate.net. directupdate.net is shareware has a registration fee i think but can be used even if you don't register it.

I can only speak for dyndns.org here. I have their service running on my dynamic (whatever, hasn't changed ip since I've had it) ip service and it does work with TLD's. Naturally it costs for you to reg the domain, then these guys charge a 30 donation per domain you wish to use concurrently.

As far as ports, I don't know bout exchange specific service, I have had the pleasure of never dealing with it. DNS takes 53, although it looks like dyndns will give you just about as many ?.yourdomain.com's as you like, so no real reason for running dns yourself, 'cept for the status factor, which I thought bout. VPN takes port 1723, at least that's all I needed to get into my 2k, behind my netgear.

For clients, you don't "really" need any unless you thing your address is going to change, but in that case, there are some 3rd party ones. Apparently the netgear ddns client can handle TLD's if you give a special hostname or something. It's on dyndns.org's pages if you look hard enough.

I use ZoneEdit, it's entirely free.

I registered http://www.teriba.com from gotoecom.com.

I changed my nameservers over to the ZoneEdit nameservers in manage.opensrs.net.

Now I have:

www.teriba.com
ftp.teriba.com
teriba.com
images.teriba.com
photos.teriba.com
files.teriba.com

all forwarded to my ip.

Webforwarding I have
movie.teriba.com
dc.teriba.com
em.teriba.com
row.teriba.com
seti.teriba.com

It's all free and it works great.

I Like TZO for dynamic DNS service... check it out. There is a free trial period... but then you have to pay... but its worth it to me.... its only like $30/year. Theres tons of documentation and it works well in the W2k environment.

there is NO WAY of having a www.___.com domain free ?

I am using dns2go dynamic ip forwarding with myip.org domain..
I am interested in this option...
