How to sell a Verizon phone?

I have a Droid 2 Global on Verizon. I hate it. Horrible battery life, new batteries extremely expensive, unresponsive screen, gets stuck/lags etc. I want to sell this thing when the iPhone comes to Verizon, add the remainder of the money and buy an iPhone.

Since Verizon phones don't use sim cards, I don't know how to make sure that the buyer will be able to use the phone, but will not be able to use it under my contract. Should I enter some kind of code? Do some kind of a reset?

The funny thing is that the Droid 2 Global actually DOES have a sim card, but apparently it doesn't work like other sim cards do on other cell carriers?

People can use your phone as long as your ESN is clear, that means the phone is not report lost or stolen and you pay your bill.

If your droid 2 is unlocked they can test it out by inserting a foreign sim card.
It should run fine at AT&T it tmobile on its edge network.

His issue is his ESN is clear and he wants to find a way to remove the phone from his current plan so that when whoever he sells it to receives the phone they are not still using his plan.

Your best bet would be to call verizon and have them deactivate the ESN from your plan. Then when you sell it they have to contact verizon to activate it again.

Also the SIM in the Droid 2 Global is not used for verizon service because verizon is CDMA. The sim is for when you go to another country you can use a SIM from a provider in that area and still get service. Hence Droid 2 Global.

You can't just delete an ESN from an account, ACCSS won't allow the field to be unpopulated.

This, OP sounds like your phones defective though, try getting a replacement. You should have none of thouse issues.

Also it is apparently possible to unlock the GSM frequencies so you could use it in North America that way.

I don't have any useful feedback on preparing your phone for selling, but there's a lot you can do to make it more usable. If the Droid 2 Global uses the same batteries as the Droid 1 (and I'm pretty sure it does), you can get them for like $8. I keep a spare in my basket.

Load a new ROM and turn the voltage down a bit, possibly drop the clocks 200mhz, and you can probably double or triple your battery life. The Global is an excellent phone.

i was thinking about verizon phones like droid x. a lot of people are selling them now that iphone is out. how are people able to sell the virgin mobile phones like that if you could just go to best buy or radio shack and get them for 150

the optimus hasnt been widely released yet so the few people who found it somewhere are able to sell them a few weeks early for 50 more? thats pretty funny, i may get that one as a third phone myself, unlimited internet for 25 is pretty good

It's not an iPhone4 obviously, but it looks damn good for $150.

No activation, no contract, no taxes, just pay your $25 and start calling.

I don't think they care if you start and stop service, but after a certain amount of non-active time you will probably lose your number.

Maybe if you live in a 4g area... but MetroPCS has tiered (non-Net-Neutral) pricing, and I'm pretty sure that $40 tier doesn't work for smartphones. I believe Android and Blackberry phones through Metro are like $50 and up.

Edit: I only see one 4G phone at MetroPCS (Samsung Craft) and its a $300 proprietary OS piece of crap. The $150 Optimus has gotta be light years ahead of this phone...

yeah i say it advertised on a billboard but when i went to their website i couldnt find anything about it. i tried the verizon optimus yesterday and it was ok but noticeably slower than droids but definitely a good deal for 25

Verizon phones are real easy to sell, even without a SIM card.

You need only to activate another phone (which can be done on verizon's website, using the ESN iirc), and the previous phone is then completely removed from the account.
It can then be activated on another account without any problems - that is, as long as Verizon hasn't logged any issues tied to that ESN. i.e. if a phone is reported as stolen, the ESN cannot be activated on another account
