How to sell a Verizon phone?

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I only now decided to get rid of the Droid 2 and cancel my Verizon account.

After seeing all previous replies I still don't see how I can sell my phone. You guys are saying that I have to activate another phone to clear the ESN, but what if I will not be staying with Verizon? Is there any way to clear the ESN if I will be moving over to another provider?

Also, is there any way to replace the Droid 2 with an iPhone with Verizon before the end of the contract? Will the refuse even if I pay the difference in price or the full price?

You can either call them and have it deactivated (there might even be an automated number you can call to do it) or take it to a store and have them do it.

If you buy a Verizon iPhone, you can simply switch over to that however you get it (eBay, Craigslist, through Verizon, etc.), just call Verizon or take it to a store and they will activate it, which automatically removes your old phone from your account.

If you want to cancel your account and don't care if you lose your phone number, just call and cancel. The ESN is only blocked if the phone is stolen or in-use, I think. When you cancel the account, it should be clear. You can check if it is clear on this website http://www.checkesnfree.com/ Click verizon and I think you need to type in the MEID DEC which is under the battery usually.

If you want the iPhone switched, just buy one and swap it out. They don't care if you switch phones as long as you keep their service. If you are almost done with your contract, maybe like 18 months into it, they might give you the upgrade price on a new one. Call retentions. If you are half-way through they might give you like $75 off or something. This will cause you to renew your contract though. If you buy it at full price, then the contract is not renewed.

Thanks. That finally makes it very clear for me. I went to a Verizon store today and was told I am eligible for an "upgrade" in December. Which is only a year and 3 months into my contract of two years. Not too bad..

So I'll either buy another phone on ebay and sell this one after it gets deactivated or I will wait for my upgrade.

I'm waiting until December as well...remember you have unlimited data and it will carry over to a 4G device as well.

Hmm....it Said I'm not eligible until June or so of 2012...that's a year and 9 months. Could be because I'm the secondary line.
