you know.. many of our BP agents get shot at on a weekly f'n basis by drug-smuggling scum, and this guy in the video decided to be a total f'n prick to a girl just doing her damn job.

If, by "internal checkpoint," you're referring to those within 20 miles of the border that search for vehicles full of illegals, then YES, you're g'damn right we need them. This isn't somewhere in the middle of Illinois people, these checkpoints are within spitting distance of the border, and they're there because illegals will often get back on our main roads after coming X miles into our country.

Every time I think I've seen the worst from jpeyton, he goes even lower...

Maybe we should go back to the good old days of kicking people out who are sick, can't speak decent English, have no valuable skill, or are otherwise of no use to America.

We've really fallen from grace, haven't we?

Well apparently from her responses she/they/HS have no legal right to detain this gentlemen so maybe they should just move their ass 20 miles closer to the border where they can legally stop and inspect vehicles.

Just because the gov't can trick people into compliance doesnt mean the informed are wrong to object to the "papers please".

Oh shes getting paid to harass American citizens well ok I guess that makes it all good. If she was a volunteer or something then we would have a problem. But as long as she is willing to do it for the all might buck.

gee, that would certainly work to curb the border-crossers who jump on the main roads 10-15 miles after crossing...

I see absolutely nothing unreasonable about the checkpoint, or the young ladies' professional conduct in the video.

Two questions:

1. Do you, or do you not, want to see illegal immigrants caught?

2. How is this ANY different from sobriety checkpoints set up to randomly catch drunk drivers?

Hey genius, she's a Federal Agent whose mission is to find and detain illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, etc. Everything she did was within her charter, and, from what little we can see in the video, at no point did she impose upon the rights of the driver (prick) going through the checkpoint with his almighty camera.

U.S. CBP agents have a very important, and a very dangerous job. I think it's absolutely disgusting that anyone would sh*t on their service to our nation, or wrongfully accuse them of doing it for the money. I can assure you that they are not paid anywhere near enough for the dangerous work that they do every day.

Please answer question #2 above.

That guy is a total jackass. No matter how you feel about the checkpoints the guy is a complete tool. It's one thing to oppose the checkpoints but it's a totally different thing to be a complete asshole like this guy is. He was trying to instigate a confrontation so he could get it on film. Grade F'n A moron is what he is.

Ok, so not only is it her Job, but now it is her mission to. Maybe some people don't consider harassing american for driving down the wrong road a service to our nation. I didn't accuse her of doing anything for the money, your the one saying it is ok because it is not only her job but her mission.

I admire the woman's patience, and her decision to finally let him go on his merry way was VERY mature and professional -- a lot of junior officers may have taken the bait, but she did not. That shows fantastic judgment and restraint on her part. I'd hire 10 of her to work on any of my teams!

Yes, he should have just silently opposed it. Wouldn't want to get in the way of their mission.

I'm appalled that this guy is blamed for being a "jackass" in the video. He was illegally stopped by law enforcement officials. Anything else in this scenario doesn't matter.

I had a German roommate went on a road trip to L.A. after he finished his PhD. He was cruising along the northern edge of New Mexico (which is far more than 20 miles from the border) and came across one of these check points. He was almost deported because he didn't have his passport or visa papers with him. The only reason he wasn't was because he explained his situation and had the BP agent call the university and try to get him to fax the visa papers to the BP, which the university refused to do (privacy issues :p). The BP agent got so fed up trying to deal with the university official that he just let him go on his way.

Bottom line: law enforcement should not have the ability to stop me in my car without probable cause. We are no longer the "land of the free" when I have to produce my papers every time I drive down the interstate. I know that the US Supreme Court (or at least lesser courts) have supported law enforcement's right to run DUI checkpoints, but I vehemently disagree with these decisions.

She made that decision because she had no legal authority to detain the guy and therefor had no other choice.

I agree to a point however since the USSC has upheld these sorts of things then it is lawful. The reason this guy is a jackass is because of the way he acted - not because the scenario around it. This jackass purposely tried to create a situation(watch the other vids he has where he is preparing for the same checkpoint). He is purposely trying to create a problem so he can whine about the "evil" border patrol/HSA/cops or whatever. The guy is a total douche for being so disrepectful to these workers.

I'm not sure what part of anything you said makes it OK to randomly stop US citizens who aren't doing anything wrong. Harassing someone doing their job is silly, but that doesn't mean her job and her mission aren't idiotic...they should just be protested in a more effective way than being a jerk to someone with no power to change anything.

And for what it's worth, I don't think random drunk driver stops are OK either. If you're driving like you're drunk, the police have every right to pull you over...if they suspect you're transporting a truck full of illegal immigrants, they have every right to search your vehicle. But randomly stopping people the police have no reason to suspect of any wrongdoing is about as un-American a policy as you can get. And I don't think you can hide that behind "don't you want to see illegal immigrants caught".

How would it be any different to have a checkpoint that stops you and checks your laptop for illegal porn(obsenity laws vary), illegal music downloads, how about we see what websites you visit and read your opinions as you post them on the internet?

You want to live in a society where you have no right to privacy, you want the masses to change their lifestyle because the gov't doesnt really want to do the "hard work."

One of those videos shows a dozen agents with and air condition command post. That same group could be on the border covering hundreds of miles targeting the criminals instead of cherry picking a few that might be dumb enough to get snared in the checkpoint as they racially profile the subjects.

If HS wants to stem illegal immigration, they need to hit the employers, instead they waste money doing this crap that is most likely pretty ineffective.

The good news is that States are now taking control of the problem and doing just that, bad news is we are still pouring fed tax dollars into the HS farce.
