If you had used a gun like us efficient North Americans do, you wouldn't have this problem.

If you want to solve the problem once and for all, clean it well (alcohol/degreaser) and wipe with a solution of ferric chloride. Vinegar works too but doesn't look as good.

Unless the UK has deemed ferric chloride to be a dangerous weapon...

Eh? I have no idea what ferric chloride is. Is it explosive or something?

Just going by the name it looks to be iron chloride. FeCl3 in particular if I'm not mistaken.
