How to get skunk out from under house

It definitely smells like a skunk got under my house. It smells so damn bad. It seems it squeezed in a hole in one of the gates to get under the house. Any products that Home Depot/Lowe's or anywhere else would sell something to get the skunk out? I obviously don't want it to die under there cus then it'd smell for years. I have two dogs and that's probably why it hasn't come out from under my house but I have no problems keeping the dogs inside if I have to put some bait or something in my back yard for the skunk since it'll most likely come out at night.

It's probably best to call someone to trap it. You really don't want to mess with those things. I guess you could try to lure it out. Apparently they really like grape jelly.

This is the big problem with crawl spaces. Once you get it out, make sure you seal it up good with some chicken wire.

Good idea, if you decide to trap it, is to wrap the trap (except the business end where the critter goes in, to get trapped, of course!!) with a tarp or drop cloth. If the skunk sees you coming to get the trap, he's going to spray.

Watched Mike Rowe, on Dirty Jobs, try to walk up to a trapped skunk with a tarp held in front of him, to drop over the trap. Let's just say that it's highly likely that he ended up throwing out the clothes he was wearing that day!! D:

Wrong size trap. Generally they don't spray when caught in a trap, but I suppose if it's a really large trap, you're gonna get it.

OP, that's pretty much the only solution: trap it and have it taken away. You could probably purchase the trap (hav-a-hart) for about $35. Cheaper than paying someone to do it for you. Then, just take it for a lonnnnnnnnnnnng walk to someone else's neighborhood. If it's released anywhere near where you live, it'll just come back. Might have a family living under there now - a bunch of little skunk babies. (Awwww, they're so cute!) Baby skunks generally aren't successful the first few times they attempt to spray. So, you can get some nice close-up pictures of them.

Food in a trap always worked for me. Just make sure it's not a mother with young under your house too. You want to get them all out not just the mother in that case. If you aren't up for trapping and removing/killing the skunk(s) then your best bet is to call someone who does that for a living.

I would just hire a professional to get rid of it. I had a skunk live under my back porch for a couple months and my apartment smelt like it for months after it left. I was able to get used to the lingering odor but guests noticed it immediately.

Also, I nearly stepped on it as I got of out my car one night after returning home from work at 2am. As I was unlocking my back door I thought I saw something in move on the ground near my feet. As I looked down I saw the white stripe. I jumped 2 feet in the air over it and sprinted to my front door. I've probably never run faster in my life.

Such incidents, while hilarious in retrospect, are best avoided. Do yourself a favor and call.

Before doing anything expensive and difficult, take an old stereo, turn it up full blast and stick it in the crawl space. I heard this sometimes drives them out, and since it costs nothing to try you may as well give it a shot.
