Been doing chest Monday, legs/abs Tuesday, back/shoulders Wednesday, legs/abs Thursday, arms/calves Friday. It varies a bit but generally I do 3x5 (sets x reps) with a lot of forced reps if I have a spotter. Usually 2x3 of negatives on flat bench after I do the 3x5. I've had this same routine for about 3.5 months, and I'm going to be changing it up in a week once school lets out. Overall I've been lifting for a year but only semi-seriously since September, and seriously since January. The stuff I did last summer was almost useless since I didn't know what I was doing.

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Why do so many guys care about their forearms? If your lifting enough they'll get big anyway OVER TIME. The wrap a rope around a handle and stick a weight on the end of the rope and wrist the handle and the rope winds up is a great exercise if you want your wrists bigger. I would say just go rock climbing once a week or once a fortnight. Much more productive imo if you can spare the time to do it.

Get a CAPTAINS OF CRUSH off ebay. Get the 100lb as I gurantee most of you won't be able to close the No1 first time, otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about your forearms :p. Then get on to the No2 and crush on that. You can do it at work in the office also. I use them at work as I can't train at work but at least I can do this.

Steriods are a really bad idea for someone as young as 15. His body is now starting on its own to increase production of HGH ("natural" steriods). In other words, it's as if he's already on a steriod cycle of ever increasing amount until somewhere well past 20 yrs old. Don't fvck with it.

6'1" and a little over 170 lbs. Those Captains of Crush are interesting. If I end up being in my office a lot I'll pick one up. Oh and you're the one that brought up forearms. ;) Mine don't concern me too much.

The OP did or someone else mentioned the forearms.

As long as I can rock climb well that is all there is to it imo for me. I'm more concerned with performance then looks. I'd trade some fat for more weight lifted, as long as I'm not like 50lbs overweight with fat :p

Yes get one of the Captains Of Crush. If you can close the No1 so that the bar ends TOUCH you will be doing VERY good. No one at work could close it. No one at the management course closed it. Only one guy closed it first time besides me but hes 6"3 and 230lbs.

It takes 140lbs of pressure to close the No1. I am literally 1mm away from closing the No2. SO frustrating. It takes 195lbs to close the No2.

Very good stuff. Very well made.

I guess putting my fingers around my wrist was a bad example, what I was trying to get across is that I'm really small.
Right now my excercises are limited to the 2 10 pound dumbells I have, but I'm going to be getting a bench sometime before the end of the school year, thanks for all the advice.

Thing is, any protein shakes I plan on drinking need to be mixed with water, any more than half a cup of milk and I'll throw up. The bars seem so much more convenient, I'd rather grab a lookalike chocolate bar and eat it than chug a milkshake lookalike; I hate normal milkshakes, protein shakes would piss me off even more.

Ironically, the Snickers Marathon Protein (Chocolate Nut Burst) has the same amount of protein (26g) as the IDS Whey Protein Isolate (per serving) and more than the majority of whey protein shakes on the market. Tastes pretty damn good too.

I've looked around for ones with more protein but haven't found any that weren't incredibly expensive or tasted like crap. You can find the Marathon at most grocery stores. I recommend that if you can't handle shakes but want a good protein supplement.

I've got a box of Marathon bars in my closet, I love them :D

You need more weight ASAP. 10 lb dumbbells aren't going to get you anywhere unless you're doing curls with your pecker or something.

You need to squat. As soon as you squat you will EAT MORE AND YOU WILL ALSO PRODUCE MORE MUSCLE then working your upper body. Your upperbody WILL thicken out faster WITH SQUATS then had you not done them.

Squat at least every other session. Don't go crazy on 'all' your sessions. Cycle them so one is 'hard' and the other is a bit more 'relax' and go to about 80% of what you were lifting. Go all the way down and use good form.

10lb dbs ARE not going to cut it.

Squat,
Pull ups (wide grip also)
Dips (upright rows)
Bench press
Abs (other session finish with back)

I'm 5'8", 145lbs, twiggy arms, wrists that are less than 5.5in, and I can close the #1 no problem with either hand.

For any of you that are looking at gaining some weight onto your frame, send me a PM and for a small fee (I accept paypal) I will ship you some of my extra fat. I have about an extra 20lbs that I can spare in my gut.

How many reps? Or only just once?

No one besides me and my other mate has closed it properly for even one. I can rep out easily with either hand. It isn't about arm strength but more grip and forearm. What about the No2? I'll close that one within 2 weeks. I'm literally 1mm away from closing that biotch!

I'm in the same boat, I've just really got to stick to a good weight lifting routine and remember to eat like a bear.

I'll try for reps when I go home for lunch break in a couple minutes. As for the #2, I keep meaning to buy it, but I haven't gotten around to it. Maybe I'll place an order tonight. I've read that if you can do 10 reps that you are ready for the next higher level...

edit: and here's my puny wrist Text ;)

Man, I'm getting weak. I could only do 6 with right hand and 3 with left hand. :(

I need to figure out how to get motivated enough to actually train with these things.

Aight.

Yes try the No2. It is very bad ass.

Just did it now. 18 with left hand and 19 with my right hand. I have fractured my middle finger and it is still healing...I crush harder with my right hand but the reps are a b!tch. I'm right handed and use to rock climb a lot.

1mm away from closing that dam No2!

Have you had any luck with doing negatives or just holding it closed as long as you can?

Thats the first time I repped out to failure. I usually did 5reps of 3 sets 2x a day at work.

You can move your fingers further up the No1 so it is harder to do :) Have the edge of your small finger 1cm away from the edge of the grip. Makes it A LOT harder. I have the No2 so I crush on that but I'm 1-4mm away depending on if I warm up or not.

Holding on to something once you have closed it to a point is a lot easier then crushing it further.

Mix up your reps and your finger placement to make it harder.

****** YES.

Closed the No2 . First time I closed it bar to bar :). I think when I can get 5reps that would be pretty monsterious imo. The No3 is 280lbs of force to close :Q

you're fine, in the weight range for your height

I, on the other hand, need to gain weight - 65" and 85 pounds

Ignoring the very scary part of that post, I know I'm fine weight wise, but I'm scrawny as hell. I've got pretty big bones, just no meat on them. I'm starting to notice my biceps and triceps getting a little bigger from curls and dips, but my forearms are still puny, gonna look into getting a bench.

The forearms are one of the hardest areas to increase mass, partly due to the VERY VERY LIMITED RANGE OF MOVEMENT that they do. I never cared for forearms but I have rock climbed for hundreds of hrs and they are pretty thick. Hundreds of hrs rock climbing > any 'forearm exercise'.

Your forearms will increase in size over time. It isn't like your legs or your back where you can pack on muscle pretty quickly.

The more range of movement you can do to a muscle the better. This is why your forearms and calves take longer to get big Limited range of movement.

You need to eat more and squat. If you don't squat you will not pack on any weight. You have to eat a lot also.

I use to be pretty thin but always strong. Added mass etc over the years but when I hit 21 I packed on quite a lot of mass. I'm up to 185lbs @ 5"10.

Training once a week isn't going to cut it. At least 2-3x a week and you have to squat every session. This will help to thicken you out and you will get hungrier.

My bro was 5"5 @ 110lbs and he is up to 145lbs. He use to be f0cking thin but over the past 5yrs of training he has packed muscle on.

We train hard and you won't find many people train as hard though.

Eat lots of pasta, cheese, fruit, veg, water, meats, fish, eggs, BREAD AND MILK.

Eat a lot of everything. In a year you can pack on at least 10lbs if you eat hard enough. I put on 8lbs in 9months of eating hard, but then got injured and couldn't be bothered to eat so much and dropped 3lbs. You have to EAT A LOT OF EVERYTHING.

How old are you? You probably have high metabolism. This just means you just have to eat more to put on weight.

Koing

This guy knows what he's talking about.

I'll just re-iterate a few things....

1. EAT man. If you just want to gain weight then eat...eat...and eat! I'd love to be you...pizzas, burgers, fried chicken...eat as much of it as you want...just make sure that you're intaking an ample amount of protein...the carbs and fats are going to come. Sure, this may not be the BEST way to gain lean mass, but sometimes, ESPECIALLY when you have a metobolism it's hard to gain lean mass....first gain your mass....you can cut later.

2. Dude, I could give you a 3-day or even 4-day exercise regimen that will do wonders...but in all honesty....when you're just starting out do whatever the hell you want. Just looking at weights is going to make you stronger....stay dedicated for three months...from there you can start getting serious about it.

(I don't recommend the above to everyone...only those who are skinny....skinny...skinny...and never have seriously worked out).
