How to enable Nvidia Phsyx on Ati cards in Batman:AA

Hi guys,

Has anyone with a nvidia / ATI set-up and the latest drivers actually checked other CUDA apps still run properly (such as tech demos or video encoding, etc.)??

Nvidia has pulled the 'stability/compatibility/tested environment' card (and a flimsy one at that) for their reasoning, but Physx is simply a CUDA app....

As I don't have an ATI/nv set-up I can't test it myself.....

I think nv have made a big mistake with this move - apart from alienating people, they should have gone all the way and disabled CUDA..... leaving CUDA working and just ensuring Physx doesn't work is plainly anti-competitive behaviour - to leave the CUDA platform ok but block what is becoming a simple application working is a bit dodgy.

What's the next step... disabling video overlay support if someone is using a TV tuner card that is from a competitor...?

It's kind of a shame MS can't get involved and withdraw WHQL status from the newer drivers for not meeting all of their criteria, however I don't think CUDA/Physx behaviour is covered.... not being able to install the drivers easily would cause a re-think...

no no no, the next step is to have a plug-in to the PhysX driver set that automatically Rick-Rolls the user if they detect ATI hardware on board.

Nvidia pretty much gave ATI the bird when they decided to lock out mix n' match hardware setups between the two vendors. This is actually their way of competing with ATI, just like their refusal to support DX10.1 (which to my knowledge is being rolled into DX11 anyways).

Of course Nvidia is not as diverse as AMD/ATI. They don't have a cpu or full fledged platform to call back upon. As their graphics division makes up the bulk of their business it's only natural that they resort to extreme measures to protect it. I think an Apple analogy comes to mind here.

I've tried a 4870+8800GT for PhysX in Cryostasis tech demo and Arkham Asylum demo so it does work as long as you use older drivers (pre 186) and Win7. I haven't tried any of the video encoding apps.

This thread makes me wish that I hadn't purchased two 9800GT cards, that I got a deal on at Dell. I don't want to support nvidia, if this is the way they "support" the gaming community.

Edit: I also own four HD4850s, and before that an X1950Pro and X1950GT.

funny how that works eh?

It?s nothing like that. The link was removed because we (the mods) don?t know if it?s legal so we don?t know if it?s allowed. We don?t want the OP or this forum to get into trouble for copyright infringement.

But rest assured, the issue is currently being discussed and if a higher-up like Derek allows it, the link will be replaced ASAP. For the record, my personal opinion is that it should be allowed.

P.S. this post isn?t attempting moderation of any kind to this thread, I?m simply speaking as a mod about the issue.

Video Mod BFG10K.

Is it just me or was Scholzpdx talking about Nvidia removing the content from the game, not the link from these forums?

NVidia's latest marketing-driven decisions are the reason I've girded my loins for another round of wrestling with the craptastic ATI Linux drivers. I'm 99% positive I'll be going with the red team this cycle simply because of the latest NV policies. Even if I have to abandon Linux for Windows for a year or two.

We're all agreed competitor lock-out makes sense from a wringing every last cent from your customer base standpoint. But such practices offend me from a customer, technologist and enthusiast perspective.

Products and customers suffer once the transition from technological leadership to overly aggressive marketing takes place. I simply can't support a company starting down that slippery path with my wallet.

what I think is funny is we removed that link to this little piece of code but we freely hack apple computers and have guides on how exactly to do it 🙂

unfortunately how fast a card is doesn't matter when your competitor removes features for your card. This could be really bad news if lots of studios get funds from either or to remove stuff from games.

Judging by the comments by ATi and nV fans alike, both in our 5870 thread and XS's, I dont think much crying was going on by anyone.

The jury appears to be out until Dec.

I agree, a level playing field would spur technological advances between the two camps (faster gpus). My post was just a response to the sarcastic remark about needing tissues because of this ordeal.

NV is in trouble. They don't have anything to battle 5870 so they use dirty tricks. 🙂

AMD estimates they have 6 months till GT300 will be available.

Who is spreading FUD now? This seems like as bad as any tactic nV has ever used if G300 does come out this year.

So in other words "Hey, dont worry, buy 5XXX, even though there are no DX11 games, and no good ones for 6 months either."

Ironic you use the phrase "dirty tricks".

Uh oh...from the same Marketing guy:

?We put out a new GPU 15 months ago and the new one has more than doubled in performance.?

😕

I think we have to take the marketing statement for what it is: Marketing. The same as when you hear something from the nV marketing department, like the whole "physix makes our G92 faster than 5XXX blah blah."

I'm starting to suspect Nvidia's viral marketing is still hard at work. We get new radeons that are the new high end of performance and certain people spread this idea that the card is a letdown. Developers are intentionally hindering performance on ATI cards, and people spread nonsense about "tissues"??

The numbers and the facts speak for themselves. It seems as though removing the head nvidia shill only resulted in more shills.

a video cards power flows from the psu

You can't know the power of the GeForce!

You haven't heard of the 'Toxic Edition'? She'll make 100 mhz past base clocks.

Hokey physics implementions and closed platforms are no match for solid AA performance kid.

OCGuy, I know you are a big Nvidia fan, but even you have realize that this is pretty low on Nvida's part. Is this what we really want PC gaming to come to? AA, high settings, etc. only being available on one companies GPU but not the others, who ever bids the highest?

I could care less about this game, I'll never play it (I just don't care for Batman, movies, games, or otherwise) but would hate to see this be the direction PC gaming goes.

It is better than the consoles. They make AAA games exclusives so you can't play it at all if you don't own the "right" platform.

Except that no one is going to buy an xbox game for the ps3.

Now Frank Dude goes buy a PC game all happy and ooops, you have half the game for the same price...

It is just a shame Intel is so overwhelming in CPU department...
