find a real ramen joint. they are all not created equal. here in the nyc metro area we have some great ones. my favorite is a tonkotsu ramen - it's a pork bone based broth with so many layers of flavor that cooks for 8+ hours and is made creamy by all the marrow. the noodles are perfectly al dente and the pork can melt in your mouth.

i've had some good shoyu based ramens, it's a thinner broth primarily based upon soy sauce. and there are more - but the tonkotsu, it's a little bit of heaven.

I got about 20 seconds into that video. That was about as much as I could stand of those two annoying fucks.

I'll take $1 Nongshim Shin noodle over real ramen from overpriced ramen joint. Ramen joints are highly inconsistent. Nongshim Shin is not. I can cook and eat it in little over 5 minutes.

sorry, nothing instant you can make at home will compare even remotely to a good ramen joint. sure, like in any cuisine, there are good and bad ramen joints, reasonably priced ones and overpriced ones. like with ANY kind of restaurant, find a good one, it's worth every penny.

a broth cooked for 8 hours plus, so intricate and perfect. perfectly cooked pork belly. beautfiully poached egg in it. etc..

Whatever. I've had real ramen from "good ramen joints." It's overrated. $1 ramen can compare favorably with $15 real ramen.

If I'm going to leave my house to eat noodle, I'm going to go eat some Pho. $8 bowl of Pho > $15 ramen. There is no $1 substitute for Pho.

I seriously hope nobody listens to such stupid advice. Just like you can get a shitty $15 pizza from one joint and a great one from another joint doesn't mean you should just get pre-made pizza from your grocer.

Read reviews, go try some, you may hit some bummers but you will find good ones. I've had $12 bowls of ramen that are a full satisfying meal of absolute deliciousness. The japanese take things seriously. They master a craft. Find those ramen joints which have that kind of dedication, you will be in heaven. A good bowl of ramen at a place like Santouka, Ippudo, Hide-Chan, Minca in the NY metro area is a meal to be experienced.

I tried it because he said it was good. I could hardly swallow one bite, it was so dang dry haha.

But then again, there are those people who like those ultra-dry cookies that come in the round tin at Christmas, so to each his own I guess...

I used to eat it dry like that.

As far as the video goes... ranch? That man is a criminal and should be locked away. The time to round up the ranchies is at hand, my friends.

Death to ranch dressing!

This might be the dumbest thing I've read.

Same can be said about good bowl of pho. The difference is pho is about half the price of ramen. And there's no cheap $1 instant substitute for pho.

who cares? that makes no sense. so because i can get a McDouble for $1 means I should avoid paying 7 bucks at a Shake Shack or Five Guys because there is that cheaper option?

there is nothing logical about your statement.

i love a good bowl of pho. your strange anti-ramen position is just that, strange - and nonsensical.

please folks, don't go enjoy an amazing bowl of ramen cause there is a cheap substitute (which won't even come close to a good bowl of ramen)

Back in my younger years I would make ramen. If I didn't have ramen I would toss a tortilla on the gas stove with a piece of American cheese let the tortilla get a little burnt on both sides first, wrap it up and you have an instant casadia!

Where do you live? The 2 good ramen joints i know are about the same price as the pho joints.

dont get it either. They sprinkle the flavoring and eat the noodle dry.

Back in high school we used to take ramen on camping trips. We'd eat it margarita style, eating the uncooked ramen from one hand with the season mix on the other hand like margarita salt.

Good ramen is much more than noodles.

The broth and pork are amazing. I pay $10 at my local ramen restaurant.

ramen-parts-assemble.jpg

There's this place in the northern Atlanta burbs called Umaido, the rich soup Tonkotsu ramen there is delicious and only $9. Much better than any instant ramen (Shin, Noguri, Sapporo Ichiban) that I ever had. It's like pizza, you can have real pizza at a nice pizza restaurant or microwaveable.
