Well he hates bad drivers (tailgaters, people who put others at risk, those who speed excessively)....so he slammed the breaks. Guy his us decently hard (we were in the city) but not enough to hurt us badly. Friend claimed whiplash, settled out of court for a hefty sum.

The best is when people pass you just to get to the red stop light faster.

Great suggestion. Create an accident, fake an injury, defraud insurance and sue! The American way.

...sickening...

Whoever said it was faked? I said he claimed whiplash. A claim doesn't negate that it happened.

Just like you put in a claim for something. I am not him so I can't tell to what extent he suffered but he seemed to be in pain. Thanks for making assumptions.

kthxbye.
It's still a really juvenile and stupid stunt to slam on the brakes. :p

No assumption there.

To add to that note, purposefully causing a car accident for the purposes of collecting insurance is a felony in most states. You could go to jail. So don't slam your brakes, eh?

Your only options are to: continue driving normally like you were, speed up, or wait for a spot and pull over. Do NOTHING else.

Tap you breaks to tell to to get off your arse or pull over & let them pass.

The single lane highway between my city & my gf parents town have 170 km of very winding road. There are corners that have posted speed of 30 km/h, but for the most part it is 80 or 60 km & it is frustrating to have asshole tourists that drive at 40 km/h the entire way blocking traffics & wouldn?t pull over at the pull-offs. And, then you have assholes that I have to hit the brake hard to get them off my tail, because they still tail gates me when I do 90 km/h at 80 km/h zones.

but i hate pricks that tailgate when im going 70 in a 55 (flow of traffic) in the middle lane

Speed up? How do you know he's going to slow for conditions? Have you driven on this particular road? From his posts you can see that the road is A) 1 lane each way B) No passing zones C) Lots of intersections (subdivisions.) Without actually driving the road, it sounds like 55 is a very reasonable speed limit...

i was just assuming thats its a normal road with normal driving conditions. you're right, i shouldnt have assumed. but from my experience, speeding up a little bit usually shakes them off. also where i live (crowded NJ) there are plenty of one lane roads where you can go 60 and be fine

My point is that I'm not going to let the goofball behind me dictate how fast I drive. He has obviously already proven his questionable driving skills in the first place by riding my a$$ at 55mph...

no you're missing my point. if he was driving at speed limit (with normal driving conditions) he could afford to speed up a little bit. it'd be a different scenario if he was already going at 60 and the other guy was tailgating him

I hate that too...asshat cops that tailgates. A few times that I drove home late at night cops tailgates me & I pull over to let them pass, they then turn on their siren/lights and proceed to check my id & asked if I have been drinking.

No kidding. I get tailgated a lot as I drive the speed limit or *SHOCK* a little under it. Last night another car was going just a little faster, over a period of miles crept up to me, so I sped up a little to their speed and all was cool. Then some other guy going at least 20 over comes along and decides to blast by both of us, can't make it because of oncoming traffic, about runs the car following me off the road getting in between us. Rides RIGHT on my bumper blinding me (I'm in a short car, he's in a pickup, headlights pouring right in my back window) as the oncoming traffic is coming, then whips out, passes me with his right side tires still in my lane.

We happened to be going the same route through stoplights and intersections when we got to town. Ten minutes later he pulled into the store parking lot 10 seconds ahead of me. 10 seconds was worth risking lives, eh?

But we who don't speed or drive like maniacs are the troublemakers and stupid ones. Go figure :disgust:

Back when I was a hoodlum I had a 70 POS Impala. I had rigged up a small reservoir with transmission fluid in it and used a small vacuum pump that was controlled from inside of the car to pump the fluid into the carb. The result was a nice little smoke screen. That usually backed people off.

Now I just drive slower and slower until they pass.

Almost no cop in the nation will give you a ticket for doing 60 in a 55. Heck most cops won't even do so if you're doing 64 in a 55.

If someone does the limit, what is the rush ? Where are all the people racing too? I just don't get it. To me, it makes as much sense as people thinking cell phones are for important people. Cell phones are for people who WORK for important people.

People don't race if they are important. Oh wait, you had to get home 20 seconds faster. Sorry I forgot how much you value your time.

If there are that many people who demand faster limits then write a letter or two. Start an organization. But as long as limits are posted I will maintain them because a civil engineer who developed the roads knows more about safety than I do. And lets not forget speed is often a contributing factor to collisions.

Place hand above rearview mirror and push down until mirror is articulated to its maximum downward position. Resume driving.

There was a guy like that on my rear bumper today... I have an older carbureted engine... I put the car in neutral and shut the engine off, pumped the gas a few times, then started the engine again and BOOM... hehehe... he stayed back a good 5-6 car lengths after that :D

I guess in your world stores remain open 24/7, airplanes will wait for you, and schools and businesses will provide warming stations for people when they have to wait outside in the cold because family members that were held up because of traffic accidents, trains or other things beyond their control are being further held up because Aholes are giving them brake tests, blocking traffic and being a nuisance on the roads.

A friend of mine did the same thing at college, only he took an old windshield washer pump from a junkyard and used that to put a few squirts of ATF into the engine.

Actually that's not comparable... the driver in front is obeying the speed limit... the guy behind him is breaking the law and creating unsafe conditions.

It's easy. I never do under what would be considered a reasonable speed *unless* my car is still warming up. If people ever want to go faster than a reasonable speed or get around me when I'm still warming my car (worst case scenario being 35 in a 40 within a quarter mile of my house), I pull the Fvck over. Nobody ever tailgates me if I pull over before its an agrivation.

By you going 1 mph over you are breaking the speed limit, yet no one gets ticketed, nor do they for 5 mph. People do get ticketed for driving too slow and creating road hazards though

You know for a fact that I'm not racing to the pharmacy to pick up needed medication for my sick grandfather? You know for a fact that I'm not taking my pregnant wife to the emergency room? Do you know for a fact that you are not endangering the lives of my loved ones by playing your silly braking games?
