You could always just go out to eat for a couple weeks and let the dishes pile up - hang out at the library or mall every day instead of going home, except to sleep. Let him see what his habits do without you being around to clean it up. Then when he says MAN this place is a dump, you can say you haven't been home :D
That did NOT work with my roommate. She is more than happy to live in her filth. She doesn't even wipe up the counter or stove after cooking and only puts dishes in dishwasher after they have piled up for 1-2 weeks. Does not rinse anything or put any old food down garbage disposal or garbage. At this point because it is destroyed the very next day after I clean, the only time I go in is when I HAVE to cook something, which unfortunately I have all but given up on anything but microwave steam meals thanks to her. When I do clean up, she will start saying something about how I don't have to clean up after her and she will get to it.....ugh. Can not wait until my lease ends

I, for one, would like to know the motivation behind joining a tech forum & quoting an 8-year-old post about a bad roommate as your first post :D

A year before I was on ATOT as a lurker, I lived in a dorm with a guy like that. He kept making Betty Crocker Cheesy Hashbrowns (comes in a box, just add water/milk/butter). He'd always scorch the pan, then throw it in the sink to soak until he made his favorite meal again, 3 days later. I got tired of him storing his dirty pan in the sink, so I waited until a Friday night and put it in his sheets, along with the nasty brown water. 3am, he was drunk and looking for a place to sleep. He wasn't happy with me....he also wasn't bigger than me either. I gave him 2 warnings.

From that day forward, he never cooked in the apartment again.

Maybe they are a timelord and didn't realize the dates? Tardis can be unpredictable at times.

1. Talk to him about it with no ultimatums.
2. If it doesn't get better, set a schedule and get a tub for the kitchen counter to put his stuff in so it's evident that it's his.
3. If it doesn't get better set the tub of his stuff in his room (not on his bed; you're doing this as a "solution", not to be overtly annoying) whenever it piles up. His problem should be in his space, not common space.

Best, most intelligent and most reasonable answer yet in a post not exactly full of them.

Whoa, finally got to this response: Brilliant!

I agree, this is 100% the best response yet! I am going to consider trying this...all I worry about it the fact that my roommate is ridiculously oversensitive to the slightest mention of her cleanliness. She even gets upset when I start cleaning up after her saying stuff like I don't have to do that or she was just about to clean that or whatever the excuse or defensive comment may be...of course this is always after I have gotten most of the cleaning done lol. At least I will be moving out in a couple months. Just feel sorry for her next roommate. Hopefully he can set some ground rules with her.

Joined just to reply to the post haha...not really. Was looking up how to get roommate to clean up after herself, this forum came up. Looked over the rest of the forum, liked it and decided to join because of mutual interests. This just happens to be the first thing I came up with

still no pics of roommate. This is an inauspicious start for your ATOT career.
