How to connect LCD w/ DFP/DVI to SVGA?

To all video Techies/Experts,

Well, I just got a Compaq (FP700) LCD monitor, only to find that it has only DFP (20-pin) signal cable. Compaq is of no help, as they aren't sure which (even of their own) computers would come with DFP socket , in place of 15-pin SVGA port. As I realize now it is harder than I thought it would be to find some 'converter' DFP -> SVGA, as there are most other LCDs that directly come with SVGA and/or with DFP or DVI. As I understand that DFP is not the only standard, in fact it is not even popular, and DVI is another standard. Does any one has a handle on this, and what choices/options do I have? I looked at many video cards, but I didn't find any with DFP, though some with DVI. Do I've to shellout and buy aonther video card (which one?) just for this, or is there simpler/cheaper solution, like a DFP -> SVGA converter. Converter solution is a better option because I could switch the monitor from one computer to other anytime.
Thanks for helping out :)

I don't know anything about converters, but they are likely to be very expensive and offer relatively poor picture quality.

Now, I'd thought that the Matrox G400 had a DFP add-on option, but this turns out to be DVI (even though it says DFP in the brochure). Oh well, I think I getting confused.

As far as I know there is no converter.
This would be hard, because the DVI signal is a digital signal and the VGA signal is an analog signal.
Check if your monitor the philips 150p has both plugs but you have to remove the back cover to find them.
ATI do make cards with that aren't too expensive for digital flat panel displays, but it isn't easy to get hold of the in the UK.
Tomshardware has a good article about DFP and DVI etc.
