Yeah you just have to pry it open at the seam on the side where the two halves are joined. Yes it just heats up the lock, it also has an led flashlight. It uses 2 AAA.

"Avon?" As in the cosmetics company? I didn't even know they made car accessories. :Q

If there's no obvious battery door, maybe the whole housing just pulls/twists apart or something?

Side Note: Do you have a spare key?

Wow, times have changed. Not that I keep up with the latest at Avon. ;)

I have an Aunt who used to sell Avon. Did for YEARS. Every Christmas it was always some horrid smelling soap on a rope or cologne that smelled like anti-freeze. :D She meant well, though.

Yea, I'm not sure how a lock de-icer is going to help you if your key is broken off inside the lock. Time for door disaseembly.

what the heck is a battery operated lock deicer?? All I can imagine is that it heats up the lock until the ice thaws. It's just going to refreeze.

Just a guess at a solution here: A) spray ethanol into the lock to get rid of the ice and water.
B) spray WD40 into the lock when done, to keep the water away.

Good luck.

Automobile accessories + Avon = turn in man card
battery operated gadget + asking for help = turn in man card

We must maintain some level of masculinity 'round these parts.

Darn it! Wouldn't you know. I had originally typed something to the effect of "weird; I've never had the problem in western NY where we get plenty of cold weather." And, today, I had to drive to work with my door open because I couldn't get it to shut and stay shut.
