How to become Gluten Free

50 years ago who died of Gluten poisoning.....

In ONE generation, the combined food allergies and intolerance has risen from 7% of the population to the current level of 17% according to the CDC. Now, do you think it might have SOMETHING to do with all the over processed 'convenience' foods or, dare I say it, growth in GMO foods? To borrow your question, how many people have to die before we start caring about what we eat again?

The reason it was low to begin with was because we were letting people die who had these issues. Now they live long enough to spread the issue.

I'm agreeing with you. Why do YOU think that is?

Probably because you either lived with what you had to eat or you died and food allergy was a cause but they didn't know why it happened until the early 1900's for the most part.

It's no more different then what modern medicine can discover the cause of a persons death such as cancer where 150+ years ago or so it would had been blamed on spirits. 😉

First they put poison in our foods, then they tell you how great they are for taking it out and charge you a premium.

Brilliant marketing...

Probably because people find the need to 'sanitize' their lives, and the reap the "benefits" of having the constitution of a delicate flower.

Recent research into peanut allergies has found that eating peanuts at a young age prevents peanut allergies. Shocking, right? That vies with quantum entanglement for peculiarities of the universe. You wonder how they even thought to ask the question.

Gluten free = lots of extra arsenic in the diet, lol. Consumer reports briefed it recently saying not to bother unless u have a medical diagnosis.

gluten hoax. Another alarmist gag. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/05/14/gluten-intolerance-fake_n_5327420.html

The subjects then were blindly assigned one of three diets for a week: a high-gluten diet, which had 16 grams per day of added gluten; a low-gluten diet, which had two grams of gluten and 14 grams of whey protein per day; and a control diet, which had 16 grams of whey protein isolate per day, according to the study.

Subjects reported worsening gastrointestinal symptoms no matter which diet they consumed. Data from the study suggested a "nocebo" effect, similar to when people feel symptoms from Wi-Fi and wind turbines, Real Clear Science reported.

It should also be noted subjects reported feeling fewer gastrointestinal symptoms after eating the baseline diet, low-FODMAP diet, which includes many foods from which people abstain when taking on a gluten-free diet, such as breads, beer and pasta.

Most people who are genuinely gluten intolerant have Crohn's or some other form of IBD. I know someone that does. She basically has to eat like a nursing home patient. It's not fun.

Seems to be a primarily white, middle-class problem. You never hear some gangsta saying "nah man, you know I can't eat peanuts homie". I heard of a recent study saying that lack of exposure in infancy might be the cause of food allergies.

They're complemented by recent statements from food writer Michael Pollan, who told HuffPost Live this week that gluten-free diets are more of a fad than a necessary lifestyle change for people who are not celiac.

"Gluten, I think it's a bit of a social contagion," he said.

"There are a lot of people that hear from their friends, 'I got off gluten and I sleep better, the sex is better, and I'm happier,' and then they try it and they feel better, too. The power of suggestion."

Do you get your food knowledge from the Food Babe?

It's certainly important to care about what you eat, but to blindly blame the thing of the day you don't understand or become chemophobic is a preposterous way to go about choosing what to eat. It's just like the video.

Don't want to be unhealthy? Stop stuffing your face with frozen dinners, potato chips, cookies, soda, and take-out.

Do you even understand what I wrote? Do you think people suddenly changed all their eating habits in one generation? I agree the foods you mentioned are bad for you. Do you actually think foods that are simply high in carbohydrates and fat are responsible for a 10% rise in allergies and food intolerance in ONE generation?

I already told you, I got MY information from the CDC. What do YOU base your accusations and put downs regarding my observed relationships between food and the rise of food allergies? I've been making trained professional boots on the ground observations in the food industry for the last 35 years. I would remind you that the cornerstone off ALL science is observation. MY training and experience makes the huge leap that MAYBE the increased food allergies has something to do with the over processed GMO foods we eat.

Of course, you're welcome to wait for consensus in the scientific community, it should only take another generation or two. Oh and, any related health issues will be well beyond remedy for this generation or the next but, maybe your kid's grandchildren can shake their heads wisely over how foolish we were because they have definitive proof there was a problem.

I just want to point out that without GMO, that next generation or two will starve to death.

"Placebo? I think it's made by P-fizer."
Lol, I miss King of the Hill.

There's probably more than a few environmentalists who think that's a good thing. As long as it's poor people and not them. 🙄

San Francisco Chronicle's online website has a never ending parade of gluten-free articles and recipes. I've posted several times that only 1% of the population has any sensitivity to gluten/Celiac disease and that the other 99% can eat wheat to their heart's desire. All hell broke loose. You'd think half the Bay Area's women were gluten intolerant (and they're damn well going to make sure you know it).
