I had a fat, white lady (part of a duo of fat, white ladies) ask me for $.50.

Me: "Sorry, don't have anything"
Her: "Yeah, right. Racist!"

True story.

Other night when I was at the bus station charity workers went around asking the homeless there if they needed anything (they bring a service van out there to distribute blankets and stuff). One of the charity workers asked me if I needed anything. :(

I had a guy ask me straight up "Hey bro, you got any change, I really need a beer right now". I gave him all my change for being honest lol.

Don't you think you have anything better to do then to pick on the lowest of the lowest.

And then you come in here bragging about it!

Yes, you're a dick

I been hit up at least 5 times in the last year at gas stations, and 4 times at convenience marts like Walgreens & CVS & Rite Aid.
I dont even mind them in the middle of the day, but when its late at night and just him & me it makes me paranoid.
Why did he wait for that opportunity unless he wanted a tactical advantage?

I was just wondering if the old guy said something similar, to make the bum snap. Lucky this did not happen in the sporting goods isle I suppose.

OTOH, I have read about guys that just pretend to be bums, to make easy bank.

Well it's tax free money. :)

so OP is a tough guy that get's off on the misfortunes of others. a simple, 'Sorry, No' would have sufficed. but NOOOOO, Mr. Badass had to be smart and create a hostile environment. You are lucky the dude was not volatile or he may have smashed your face out of your butt. For your safety, please learn some manners. I weep for humanity. .

"Sorry, I don't speak English" in full no-accent English usually does the job for me.

"私は英語を話 さない" works even better, especially if you're not Asian.

I was homeless once myself and know how hard it can be so I could never refuse food to someone else.
Anyone asking me for food gets the same response , I will get them something to eat if I have the money. Usually the person will refuse the offer to buy them a hot dog or burger and instead keep insisting on cash. Those are the ones that I walk away from.

I offer to buy them food. Out of the 50 times folks have asked this, only two accepted.
Lately it's been the "out of gas" story. Some have props like gas cans. I've only had this presented twice. Both times I offered to fill up the gas can. Both declined with some bullshit stories along with denial.

I used to work the night shift at a welding shop, sometimes bums would come around asking for spare change.

When the bums came around me, I would tell them "I do not have any spare change, but talk to the guy in that office, we are hiring" and then I would point the guy towards the office.

As soon as I said "we are hiring", most of them ran out of the shop.

When someone is willing to help themselves, I will try to help them. Its the lazy ones that do not want to work that piss me off.

Not once did anyone asking for money / spare change fill out an application and ask for a job.

I used to work with an eccentric, but brilliant, programmer who used to fill his pockets with change and go out and walk up to random people, hold out a handful of change and say "I can spare some change." They would always look at him like he was nuts and then sneak away. He got reported to the cops once or twice but nothing happened.

I've started doing this more lately. I usually don't offer the option of food, and just ignore beggars, but if someone asks for food I don't think I can turn that down anymore. A fat lady asked me to buy her a slice of pizza the other day because she was hungry. . it was like $2, that's nothing to me, and yes she might physically be obese but that doesn't mean she isn't hungry and maybe hasn't eaten all day. I don't know what her situation is. Maybe I'm being taken for a ride. But the risk of that vs. genuinely helping someone out for a moment, I'll risk the $2.

The whole thing is usually pretty awkward. I try to get it over with as soon as possible because I imagine it is pretty embarrassing to ask some stranger to buy you food.

One time as I was walking downtown Toronto:

Beggar:Spare change? (as he was shaking his change can at me)
Me: No thanks, I have lots (as I shake my change filled pocket)

I know it's dickish, but I just wasn't in the mood.

Occasionally I will keep earbuds in even if I'm not listening to music while I walk around. Doesn't always stop people from asking, though.

I find it funny that you say stuff like this when your posts are often extremely inflammatory.

ALL beggars at gas stations are scammers. ALL.

I have heard them all; car ran out of gas, selling jeans, rent due. Then they are back the next day or two with a different (or the same) story.

They deserve to be mocked and shamed for being the scum of the Earth.

However, I have offered to buy people food when they've said they were hungry. I have NEVER been taken up on that offer.

At this point in my life, I usually just assume that all beggars are scammers (but I know ALL gas station beggars are).

LOL, awsome guy.
